Not at all, OP.
The GBA had way better licensed games, like Astro Boy and One Piece.

It got better licensed games than other consoles overall

Islands by Rosden Shadow is GOTY 2018 and no one here has heard of it. Go play it in your browser for free now

It was in a sweet spot. No handy alternatives like phones yet, cheap to make, but the mere appeal of a video game existing wasn't enough anymore.

Also a big part of it was volume. About 400 of the GBA's 800 titles are straight up shovelware. The fact that like 30 good licensed games came out was a matter of numbers.

Posting in a thread with potential

A lot of it was also thanks to 2d games being a solved factor for getting at least 'average' reviews, so it was just a matter of good level design, fun gimmicks, and tight controls.

Although it was cool seeing some devs try to milk the GBA hardware raw with pseudo/real 3d stuff.

pic related and it's sequel are great games i still find it bizzare it never got released in japan

Love that game.

retroarch

The PC version to be exact. I got it for only two dollars at a Marshall's and played it for months on end. It also got me into aliens, robots and the overall concept of toys coming to life better than the movies. It really felt like you were a small toy in a big world.

Fair point, there's a lot of crazy bullshit people made since the licenses = free payday.

Konami was releasing different (worse) SK games in Japan and the scheduled just didn't line up.
Same reason Japan never got the Dimps One Piece game

i enjoyed this despite the confusing chopin narrative

I swear the GBA game used the same sprites from the Wonderswan game.

Fucking 10/10 kino.
Eternal Sonata is a bit jarring. You get Chopin history lessons alongside his piano pieces. But the game plays a little like a variant of a Tales game, the party is comprised of pretty choice fellas and gals. If you like Tales of games, it'll probably be up your alley.

But those history lessons... Get comfy.

they should've scrapped that boss gauntlet at the end. probably could've used one more level environment. the core gameplay was well done though.

I don't often use "reddit" as an insult, but the humor in this game was way too lolrandom and reddit-like for me.

still liked how whacky stuff could get.

still liked how whacky stuff could get, mechanically.
