Even if you don't need the gifts selling them gets you 100 dust which is enough for two summons which is nice. At least it would be if I ever got anything good.

Make 4 sets and a pair. A set is made up of 3 tiles from the same suit, and can either be a triplet(three of a kind) or a sequence (e.g.1-2-3).

But they can't be any random sets and pairs, unless your hand is closed(you don't call on anyone's tile except for your winning tile). They need "yaku", which is basically "hand value". You can't win off a worthless hand, so it needs to contain at least one yaku.

Some extremely basic yaku
>triplet of your seat wind + 3 any other sets + pair
>triplet of round wind + 3 any sets + pair
>triplet of any dragon(red/white/green) + 3 any sets + pair
>all sets and pairs are numbered tiles from 2-9
>all sets are triplets + pair
>flush
>flush + any non-numbered tiles

Yaku stacks for big dick scoring if your hand has multiple.

Just play the in-game tutorial and refer to a scoring chart if you can't remember any hands. It's a simple game.

You can use it ingame with any character, and it's animated. It says that it expires some time after the event, but you should get enough currency to get it without having to skip anything, so you might as well grab it and use it while you can.

The winner of that round takes all the riichi sticks played. During the point redistribution screen you'll notice they'll get whatever their hand was worth + riichi sticks worth + honba extra if there were any.

So I guess it's better to get copper than that crap from the event.

If youre purely playing the game to play more of the game, then yes, so you can enter higher ranked rooms. If you want to up your character's rank, then get the bags. If you already have a level 5 you want to ascend then get the orbs.

There should be enough event items to get all the rewards as long as you don't miss quests.

Majsoul works perfectly fine on a phone's browser, some even prefer it over playing on a computer. The pre registration period for the mobile version is also up, so we can expect that to come out fairly soon.

I feel like I'm incredibly in over my head. Fuk.

Here are things that I have learned that generally help out.

Limit your greed. Don't run in the middle of the street if someone else riichi's especially dealer. That's only asking to get your points taken generally, unless you are able to keep discarding safe tiles and then are able to get to tenpai.

Count the dora on the table and in your hand. The longer the game goes on and the less dora you see or get, the more dangerous everyone else's hands are. The most annoying thing is to get hit by an open hand with triple doras. Know when to fold it.

Honestly the strongest tool in the box is just knowing when to fold. You aren't going to win every hand, but you can make the ones you win count. -8k points is a 16k difference.

Don't rely on your inner Saki. Listen to your inner Akagi instead. Go for big dick hands especially if they're obvious since it's safe to assume that most players at that level don't have all of the rules and yaku memorized yet or know how to read discards.

I get overwehelmed just by thinking about considering reading the rules of this.

Just go start with mahjongsoul, the tutorial is p gud.

It's really nowhere near as scary as it seems, the basic gameplay flow is very straightforward. The only real barrier to entry is the 1 yaku minimum thing, but you can always fall back on riichi for your yaku since it works with any four sets and a pair.

I can't read discards. I will never reach Expert.

Reading discards is a meme, all you really need to look for in the pond is absence of a certain suit (possible chin/honitsu) or lots of middle tiles for cuckushi musou.
