Idk exactly what you meant by "setting up" Dwarf Fortress. But I just thought I'd let you know that the "set up" isn't that hard (Just a download and learning how to generate a world) it's learning to overcome the difficult to use menus (which is mostly because they have so many unique options). I just wanted you to expect frustration in the right place.
Also for what it's worth I enjoyed Dwarf Fortress quite a bit.

Definitely. It's something like Dwarf fortress lite, but it's deep enough to keep you interested. There are tons of mods to make it even deeper, you can even make captured bandit a rape slave for your animals if that's your thing

Enemies have inflated HP which makes fights boring. Plot is nothing special. The overall difficulty is slightly higher than it should be IMO. It's not bad since it's definitely a DQ experience, but fuck it's the most dull one I've played. II was probably worse with that endgame grind but that didn't last as long.

Yeah that's because Valve screwed community servers with the Meet your match update wherein they made their own servers the only ones playable though Matchmaking.

Though you can still find the odd Deathrun, Slenderman servers sometimes

Honestly it's really cool. I'm almost done, I think I'm at the last or before last "dungeon" and my ingame timer is at about 15 hours. I feel like 20-25 hours is the perfect length for an RPG, especially after playing Persona 5 in 103 hours.

I also love the atmopshere and the gameplay of DDS, a lot more than Persona, and I almost feel like I prefer it to Nocturne. I really recommend it to anyone looking for a darker RPG that doesn't treat you like an idiot and doesn't waste your time.

I've always wanted to play Okami but I heard it overstays it's welcome by like 5-10 hours.

Well it's a game about colonists who crash on an alien planet, the goal is to build a spaceship and get the fuck out of there, but this requires a lot of time and resources. You start with choosing yur crew and starting point on the world map (there's a few different climates which affect the gameplay style)
You build your base, farm food, hunt animals, dig for metals/stones. You have three "storytellers" which affects the events that occur in your area, also a few difficulty levels so it can be the comfiest or most unfair game ever. There's random encounters, from raider attacks to escaped slaves looking for help to wandering traders (also random fires, wild animals going berserk or characters' mental breakdowns if you don't care for them) . With time, you'll build an economy and can sell your goods to nearby towns, if there any on your world map.
Your colonists have their needs and ambitions. One wants to sleep in a luxury bedroom, other wants cybernetic implants. You have to keep them fed, healthy and happy. When you do all this stuff, you discover new technologies which unlock structures, items and weapons.
And, as I said to other user, there are tons of mods, which can really change the gameplay.
I think I told you about 20% about the game. Pirate it and try it out, then buy if you're sure

If there's one thing that can put me off in that kind of games is things being obtuse, resulting in having to check the wiki very often. Does that happen in Rimworld?
What you told me so far sounds pretty good and it seems the game has solid reviews, so I'll pirate to try it out then buy if I like it.

Nice, I really enjoy Paladins, my second 120 was a pally and I played one during most of Legion.

It was my first puzzle game too more or less and it took probably half the game until it really started to click. You'll get there. I'm still not good enough to play on hard yet, though. Remix mode is really fun for a 2nd playthrough.
I did Katherine's new route first (oof) because I went in blind. Then I did Rin's true ending, then Catherine's true ending.
Rin's route dramatically shifts the plot of the last third of the game and it has been my favorite overall. It's a really happy/goofy ending and I'm not sure if the others will be able to pass it just because of its weirdness, but I'm looking forward to doing the rest. You can save scum before the last day of the game to make finishing endings easieir (or just look them up on YT of course)

It's my first Catherine game and I love it.

Core gameplay is fun and has a good bit of variety/replay value. It seems really weird at first if you don't play puzzle games but once it clicks it's great.
The writing is hilarious, the MC has so much personality and there's I think 12 different endings you can choose that are all weird as fuck. Pretty standard Atlus-style heaven&hell themes but much more comedy/adult focused.
It has the same engine as persona 5 so visually it looks really nice.

Personally I had zero regrets picking it up at full price even though I went into it almost completely blind. Still playing it now after about 30 hours.

No, not nearly as long. About 15 hours for the main story for me. But if you choose Rin's route the story branches pretty hard from the vanilla game so there's at least two play through's worth of content. Plus other optional content unrelated to the story mode
