Gatcha usually gives you a massive amount of currency, so you can easily amass a powerful roster. FGO in particular has very few bad characters and even 1 star have important roles (Arash). Also the very first character you have is one of the best support of the entire game. People who spent on gatcha are those who want very specific characters, usually not for gameplay purpose.

They're both fine. Keep them away from impressionable kids, but people shouldn't need a nanny state to tell them what they can and can't waste their money on.

As someone who's been playing since launch, you don't need 5* characters except for specific challenges. Which you don't have to do.

The game gives you one free revive of all your characters when you die that refreshes every few days. The game is honestly pretty easy.
