I was a nintendo 64 kid back then, and now I'm catching up on these PS1 platformers by playing the remasters. What I'm noticing the most in these games compared to N64 platformers is that these games have god awful music, especially Spyro has awful forgettable music. Even platformers on the PS2 have awful music, I played the HD rehashes of Sly Cooper, Ratchet&Clank, Jak&Daxter, all of them have disgusting forgettable music.
What went wrong? And don't cope with "western devs can't into music", Rareware games on N64 had god tier music.
Yeah, I’ve seen that people remember banjo and Conker music more than they do Crash and Spyro, the only track from crash I remember perfectly is just n.sanity beach
Crash has an unremarkable soundtrack but Spyro had Copeland.
Your tastes are pedestrian
Logan Flores
Your wrong, every platformer by default had shitty music. 100% fact.
Jace Wood
I'm nearly done 100%ing the first Spyro and I can't remember a single fucking track from this game. They're all completely forgettable background tripe. On the other hand I could hum every single track from SM64 or Banjo Kazooie right now.
Aaron Bailey
You should have noticed the stiff as fuck gameplay first. Especially in Crash.
Evan Anderson
I don't mind the stiff gameplay, the PS1 wasn't as good as N64 with 3D games. The music is what hurts me the most in these games. It's pure trash.
Other than Rayman which is passable the other soundtracks you posted are shit. Compare that forgettable crap with SM64, Banjo, Conker, Kirby 64, OOT, and so on.
Jose Smith
>calls OP a giant gay nigger after proving his point
>I can remember everything from games that I spent a lot of time with in my childhood but can't remember something from something I'm playing for the first time Wow. What a revelation. I can remember every single Spyro song and I probably couldn't remember a single song from whatever nintytrash I'd play if I ever played it. No shit you remember what's important to you.
How come I can do the same from other games with good music that I played recently? I remember most tracks from Mario Odyssey, MK8, Hollow Knight, or even fucking Atelier Rorona? Spyro is totally forgettable, while Crash has like 2 decent tunes in the whole game.
sounds fine to me >youtu.be/glkPyEeVzwc I mean it fits a jolly platformer like this just fine, and the composer is defintively a competent musician, regardless if it fits your personal taste. How come everything is either GOOD or SHIT with you guys?
Aiden Barnes
>What I'm noticing the most in these games compared to N64 platformers is that these games have god awful music, especially Spyro has awful forgettable music.
Koji Kondo and Grant Kirkhope are legends of the industry.
Having anyone else compose for your game is like ordering a Pepsi/Coke and being given an RC Cola.
It's not bad, but you won't remember it.
Asher Cooper
The hd ratchet demake is dogshit OP particularly the music. They replaced all the classic bangers from the original with generic hollywood orchestral forgettable shit. Never do that again, play the originals or dont play them at all
Mason Harris
Kirby (literally who), Paper Mario (literally who), Diddy Kong Racing (David Wise) and Conker (Robin Beanland) had god tier music too.
Carter Harris
You’re not wrong and this is coming from someone who loves Spyro. My nostalgia for it and now-enjoyment with the remaster is mainly from the collect-a-thon aspect and some controls (charging, jumping, etc).
Carter Jackson
>Rareware Western devs can into music, but Rareware really ain’t the best example, especially of your gonna inevitably being up Banjo. Its sound track ain’t bad but it also isn’t anywhere near god tier.
Dominic Price
Spyro at least has unique songs for every stage. Super Mario 64 has like 5 songs lmao. Half of the stages use the bobomb battlefield song and the other half use the slide song.
Jace Stewart
I think their music is good, but just not as catchy.
I also didn't play them much when I was younger. I think If I spent more time with them I would remember some songs though.
CTR music is noticeably worse than mario karts though despite being better than that game in every other way
Easton Rivera
Actually, correction. Rareware is only a good example if your talking about DKC.
Cooper Foster
You're completely wrong on Sly, as someone who was a Sega kid. That's Pete McConnell, also known for the kino soundtracks of Monkey Island 2 and Psychonauts.
>I could hum every single track from [...] Banjo Kazooie
wow what is a motif
Benjamin White
There are multiple western games with good soundtracks on PS1 and N64, but none of them are 3D platformers.
The first Rayman, Turok 2, Oddworld for ambience and general sound design, and MGS1 (composed by a western guy iirc, can't be bothered to google) have good music, but overall the Japs made the best tracks by far in that era.
Wait, you are N64 kid wants to complain about MUSIC???? Huehuehue aheusheuahwhHahshsuahehshahehsieuauehaushaush MWAAHAHAHAHAHAHEUSBSHAHZHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAKEK
Go play Glover or some shit.
Michael Parker
Spyro soundtrack is pretty good. I prefer the Original though. You probably play with Reignited and Dynamic sounds on.
What are you even talking about? Of course you can remember all 8 songs from banjoo. That's all you played. That's all the N64 could manage. Your brain can't even process all the music the PS1 could do.
OP you are delusional.
Jeremiah Ortiz
>You probably play with Reignited and Dynamic sounds on. Was just about to say that this is probably OP's issue. The Reignited covers are rather forgettable (even moreso with Dynamic turned on), but the Original music track is great.
Liam Reyes
Exactly. And OP wants to make it look like he knows something about vidya music when he isn't even listening to the original. when all he played in his life was Nintendo's underdeveloped shit. I pity him.
Brody Walker
Has anyone tried down sampling for spyro the dragon.
Jack Green
Only good themes are the main themes
Lucas Richardson
Based, SM64's music is obnoxious trite, give me Spyro's or Crash's OST's over that anyday, the Bowser final battle theme was kino though.
