No joke but Gravity Rush is one of the main inspirations they listed in their reference board and the sprite artist is possibly the most famous western GR fanartist

I wouldnt be surprised if the artist just didnt care. If this was their first commission type work then they probably werent too into it and more than likely didnt care for any of the designs so they put in the least effort

They look like they tried to me desu. It's their usual style but with flatter colours and shading to probably accomodate editing the expressions and other features instesd of redrawing stuff for every sprite.

It's pretty common in lower budget releases with character portraits like this. Whether or not it looks good is another matter, but I don't think this is a low effort project for them.

well the whole game has that uninspired "unity game" look so I guess its fitting. Kind of a waste on the artists part though, seems like he could do better

Disappointed to not hear voice acting in this trailer, I actually thought the VAing in Furi was surprisingly good for a small studio title, even the japanese and French voices.

I just noticed that there's barely any games where the main characters are explicitly in a romantic relationship AND it's not a VN. I get why but never realized that it's just that uncommon.
They already made a solid action game, so why not do something different?

Because they’ve shown they have talent in making action games and should build more on that to make even better games instead of throwing it all away in favor of generic turn based combat
