>In case you're out of the loop, the standard combat system for FF7 Remake has you attacking in real-time to fill up the ATB gauge, which then allows you to pause the action to execute special attacks, cast spells, and use items. Thus, it plays like an action RPG. However, in Classic mode, standard attacks are automated and the ATB gauge fills up on its own. You won't have to worry about the real-time action aspect, and you would only need to take care of executing commands as if it was a traditional turn-based RPG.
FFVII Remake has a pure ATB-style "classic mode"
It sounds more like Xenoblade's auto-attack system than the old ATB system to me
why is unreal so good bros
Add the CTB system from FFX and I might even try to pretend I give a shit about this retard garbage.
Not sure why faggots are so focused on the stupid combat. FF games never really had good combat and this doesn't look that good either.
I'm not getting the game because its episodic and they will be taking a big fat shit on the story because Nomura is a fucking freak autistic retard
Xenoblade 2 maybe
Xenoblade 1 just had cooldowns for each ability like an MMO
>in Classic mode, standard attacks are automated and the ATB gauge fills up on its own
that's nothing like classic though
the game literally plays itself apart from the menu commands in between the autoplay
It's nothing like the classic style though. It's a marketing ploy to call it classic.
they said XV had this and it was totally fucking shit
>Xenoblade 2 maybe
Xbc2 is a bit more action oriented considering you can cancel your attacks mid combo to reset them to charge skills faster and do more dps
because combat is 80% of the game i wanted a good story i would watch a movie you boomer
>Not sure why you faggots are so focused on the quality of the thing you will be doing most of the time you interact with the movie.
Like you I am not getting it because of episodic nature (and my blackspine misprint copy is sitting right on the shelf next to me) but this is pants on head retarded.
I've played RPGs with utterly retarded stories because the combat was fun. I've dropped many RPGs because the combat was dogshit even though the story was good. I can read up on the story on a wiki. I can't suffer thru dozens of hours of bad gameplay.
Gameplay, you know, the thing you need to have in your game. And it has to be good to be a good game.
>some people said that ATB charges faster with classic mode and that bosses have reduced HP
OH NO NOOOOO
TURN BASED BABIES LITERALLY GET THE EASY MODE
The ONLY aspect of FF's combat that has always been shit is that they have ailments like DQ or SMT but ailments don't gel with the system. Ailments are largely useless on normal mobs because you can 1 hit them, but they never work on bosses ever. There are rare exceptions but they've designed their combat so entire branches of skills just do nothing in boss encounters.
Beyond that it was just serviceable. This new "do nothing watch things happen" shit is beyond pathetic and ruins the game.
>This new "do nothing watch things happen" shit is beyond pathetic and ruins the game.
That's pretty much what ATB is.
This just looks like Skies of Arcadia with better graphics.
no. ATB is if you hit no buttons nothing happens.
You can just hit zero buttons here and kill things thru the basic attack auto spamming.
There will be videos of people beating the game pressing zero buttons on the bosses and just beating them with chip damage.
There is zero reason to get on board with this shit unless you don't actually like playing video games. In which case you invalidate your opinion by default.
I've been replaying older FF games like 5 and I think its a misconception. Status effects absolutely do work on bosses very often and they can make a big difference.
most of that stuff matters most when you dont grind that much.
even newer FF games like X tell you to use status effects against specific enemy types and in FF13 they are actually essential.
shit like junctioning blind to your weapon in 8 is loads of fun too.
>There will be videos of people beating the game pressing zero buttons on the bosses and just beating them with chip damage.
Post one. How long does it take?
>There is zero reason to get on board with this shit unless you don't actually like playing video games.
FF7's combat was nothing special to begin with. My concern with the remake is the story, which they are going to shit all over, and the episodic cash grab nature of the releases.
How the materia system works is far more important than the turnbased system being different to the original.
>i wanted a good story i would watch a movie
ridiculous
This. It just makes me wait instead of mash. It‘s a stupid solution for a stupid problem.
no it isnt. it is a thing to consider but just because you need to consider one portion doesn't mean you can just handwave something so blatantly wrong as what they've done to the combat.
FF5 is very different.
The game was designed with dozens of character classes in mind, trying to make sure almost every class could contribute to a fight.
in FF8, enemies scale, so you can't one-shot everything, and the junction system makes status effects super useful to the point where they actually become BAD (like Pain)
FF13 doesn't really use status effects much in the main game. Every battle in FF13 can be beaten by going Com/Rav/Rav and switching every other turn to Rav/Rav/Rav or Com/Med/Sen when you need to go defensive and heal.
Sab/Syn are practically useless in the main story.
literally no word on the materia system.
they probably fucked it.
>can
that doesnt mean you should. status effects arent mandatory in any FF game but ignoring sab/syn in FF13 means you're making all fights take way fucking longer.
FF13 is a game about optimizing your damage output in a rotation while adjusting to enemy behavior but most people never got that. so they did sent/med/rav and spent 30minutes and longer in bossfights.
>it is now just cosmetics and you can bedazzle your weapons with colored gems to personalize them.
>the actual materia does nothing.
No, it's a game about inflicting Break on an enemy with Com/Rav/Rav then going full ham on them.
It's also boring as shit.
confirmed for getting two star results
You mean consistent 5-stars.
While you're wasting time buffing and debuffing, I've already killed the enemy.
The only thing you NEED to know in FF13 is how to abuse the weapon/accessory upgrade system and where to farm Gil.
Once you do that, the game is simple. There are some fights where you can even go Com/Com/Com and end it in a single turn.
Also, by constantly switching every other turn, you refil the ATB gauge of the whole party, so I'm getting 5 turns in the time it takes you to make 3 turns.
Oh shit fucking based
>confirmed for getting two star results
Uh, no, I did stuff like that too and would consistently get 4/5 stars. I think anybody would
>the game is following a free to play phone model and materia is the premium currency now
How is it possible to suck so bad at ff13...
Its a mix of both. Once you abuse haste atb refreshing isnt really necessary. Most people went through ff13 not knowing that debilitated enemies stagger faster than normal. Some enemies and bosses even have a high enough stagger bar that you wont ever get them to break. Post game is entirely abusing status effects.
So we have actual combat gameplay an Game Journalist/FFXV tier Classic mode.
Everyone wins and the combat isn't nerfed to pander to casuals.
>Not sure why faggots are so focused on the stupid combat.
because the last time FF had an action RPG the combat was one button due to casual pandering:
novacrystallis.com
Stop pretending that FFX's combat was good.
KH-kun how much longer will you remain triggered? It's been years
Hidden from you at least for now
Nomura has said that materia system is pretty much the same, also materia growth is in too.
FFXV has more combat depth than most FF games.
lol that ain't classic mode at all. I love how they will fool tons of shits with this false marketing here.
Absolutely based, FFX gameplay was effectively scripted. You either used the character whose attack killed the enemy with a weakness to it in one hit or you didn‘t do any damage at all. You didn‘t have options. X-2‘s gameplay on the other hand was excellent.
All what they had to do is make characters line up during combat and wait their turns after the ATB gauge fills in order to attack. Then go back in their line up spot before their turn is up again. Exactly like the original only with modern graphics. That is literally all this remake had to be.
That's a remaster though.
>Devs have to tune and balance two combat systems
What's with Square Enix and feature creep development hell?
Barry, go the fuck to bed.
It's not the same damn combat system, why do you fucks think it's the same, it's literally an autobattle system that only requires your input to eat up ATB gauge build-up.
Nice jugs.
>same
It looks prettier, but throwing a fireball seems more Kingdom Hearts style than FF7's old style.
the combat is mash to attack to build up resource making it "turn based" by automating the attacks wont be hard.
just tell me the victory fan fare will at least play after boss fights
xv only played it when you tally your exp which was retarded
>Aeris will have her Kingdom Hearts "innocence personified" personality
>Tifa won't call Barret a retard
>Cid won't be abusive to Shera
>Barret won't dress up like a Popeye sailor
>Red XIII won't dress up like a Shinra soldier
>Yuffie won't have unbuttoned short shorts
>Since the entire game is just Midgar and you'd only have four party members until Red XIII joins at the end, Jessie and Biggs will get added as temp party members
>More focus on the Turks
>Rufus won't die
>Palmer won't randomly get hit by a truck when you beat him
>Scarlet won't name the world's most powerful weapon the Sister Ray
>Don Corneo won't try to rape a 16 year-old
>Crisis Core people will show up in Cloud's flashbacks
>Hojo won't try to breed Red XIII and Aeris
>Dio won't be a muscular guy in a speedo
>No Barret date, probably no Yuffie date
>No Tifa/Scarlet girly slapfight
>No extremely time-consuming CPR minigame with an underage girl
>No gay sauna scene
>Fewer wacky enemies
>Increased emphasis on Zack, his parents are no longer missable
>Probably more about Cloud's past during Midgar since you can't have an entire game where you don't go into the protagonist's history
>Final boss of Midgar will no longer be a random tank
>They'll somehow work in "dilly-dally-shilly-shally"
>episodic
I can forgive everything else, but this is just retarded
I can't wait to see you virgins cry about the Yuffie remake.
Aeris won't die in the remake. It's a complete reimagining. The plot twist of the second game will be that she survives the City of the Ancients.
I think the Turks will chase you on the highway alongside the Motor Ball, and they'll all act as the final boss of the first game.
>they will be taking a big fat shit on the story
Come on let's be honest, ff7 already had a dumpster fire of a plot.
Will there be chocobo breeding and chocobo racing?
Hope so.
The bones of the plot were pretty basic.
Man goes crazy because of dark secret he finds out and then summons death of planet as result.
>Since the entire game is just Midgar...
>proceeds to list random plot points from after midgar that won't be in the game
excellent detective work
>standard attacks are automated
OH BOY ANOTHER INTERACTIVE MOVIE GAME WHERE I GET TO WATCH THE COMPUTER PLAY THE GAME FOR ME LOL. I have lost all hope for the FF series after 13.
>that yuffie art
the only time yuffie designs have the unbuttoned shorts is when she has them practically pulled up past her bellybutton. it looks fucking stupid and she looks way sexier with the shorts around her lower hips like they should be, buttoned or not.
no really look at this shit
why the fuck do people want her to wear her pants like this? it's not like it shows more skin or anything.
So just don't use Journalist mode.
Holy fuck you're autistic.
picture
If I can't input commands for every party member the game is going to be shit.
You can. Just switch to them using the D-Pad.
You haven't watched any of the combat footage, have you?
Also, what about "and you would only need to take care of executing commands as if it was a traditional turn-based RPG" makes you think you're not inputting commands?
She kinda looks like a bionicle
yeah fire out of nowhere instead of fireballs from the caster seems better right
You simply can't please everyone at this rate.
Completely nonsensical, and also
>reddit
This is not what people wanted.
This has always been the case for all things.
>this is not what 50% of the people wanted
ftfy
The remake was always going to be this exact shitshow.
A vocal minority keep clamoring for a turn-based remake out of a game that wasn't turn-based to begin with.
>Everyone wins and the combat isn't nerfed to pander to casuals.
>Hold square till atb fills up faster
It's already shit desu
FF7 was "sit with your thumb up your ass till ATB fills up"
FF combat has ALWAYS been shit. Not sure why it's so sensational now.
Is there a Tifa boob slider too? That would be a buy.
>FF games never really had good combat
Not really. They're basic and easy, but they're still fun when you can experiment or find ways to limit yourself, which is why V's 4jf is so good.
Even 7 was fun because monster skill materia exists.
Resonance of Fate is the closest we'll ever get towards the natural progression of turn based RPGs.
>not playing a game because of boobs
Thirsty nerds are hilarious.
Objectively false, you still has to issue direct commands actively while the enemies retaliate based on their hidden atb bar.
Here you're forced to hold or mash square before before filling a bar high enough to access all tools via shitty flow-breaking slow-mo mode or only 1/3rd of them through shortcuts. Rinse & repeat.
It's a massive downgrade.
It's the good old "I don't like change, I just wanted FF7 Remastered".
>Objectively false
You're lying for the sake of "winning" the argument.
youtube.com
You literally sit there waiting for ATB to fill.
Isn't there technically more tactical depth on a core combat level than base VII just by having manual guarding, movement and other factors? Materia were the big game changer that changed your moves and commands, which most certainly won't be the case as I can just see Steal or certain attacks being added to your ATB Skills and the like, but they're mixing up the monotonous standard combat into something more invigorating and seemingly ensuring that you also cannot grind forever at story points. How much of this bitching is just because it isn't the original, and how much of it is bitching that it's not as action game-y as they want it?
Not him but it was sure as shit better than ATB.
Did you only play the game for five hours or something? Yes different party members have different utility, that's not a bad thing. But there are plenty of enemies that don't play into that dynamic, and it doesn't apply to any of the bosses either.
X-2 is fun but for the most part incredibly easy. You can just unga bunga damage and none of the (story) bosses stand a chance. The special dresspheres are also completely useless, a terrible replacement for summons.
I should correct myself by saying that there ARE certain bosses that can only be damaged by ranged attacks at certain points, and sometimes have elemental weaknesses, but again, that's not a bad thing.
The point is you're not gonna be OHKOing Yunalesca just by switching to the right party member.
I'm actually curious how the Hundred/Heli Gunner fights will go in the remake.
ATB v 2.0 is so much better than ATB
Why did Square only use it for Chrono Trigger and literally nothing else?
The original fantasy fantasy 7 had shit combat and was literally a movie. It was good because of the side content, characters and music
Square entered their experimental phase for non-main properties in the PS1 era. I'd say Parasite Eve was technically active time battle but with real time movement and so forth (arguably a far precursor to something like FF7R when you think about it), but it is surprising that it got completely shelved overall. I have no idea what Cross' combat was trying to accomplish either.
FF12 combat was objectively the best.
>its optional
whooooo cares
>who cares
People looking for any reason at all to shit on it because it's not a remaster.
Fuck off with your censored game.
Its the good old "we'll do the remaster while ruining the reasons you wanted a remaster".
>LOOK MOM! I DID THE THING ON THE INTERNET AGAIN!!
You already got the equivalent of a remaster, and slapping higher res models onto the original FF7 wouldn't fix Square's stupidity.
>he thinks remaster and remake are the same thing
So... Classic is just the FF13 combat then. Just let the game play itself. Jesus.
Yes, I cleared the game. But Yunalesca is very late in the game and that you need to bring her up, her, one of the last bosses, pretty much proves my point.
I agree with the special dresspheres, at least they made immune against status. From a story point of view summons weren‘t possible anymore, the point of FFX was literally eliminating summons.
FF12 combat, actually.
What is it with square enix and the inability to make a fun game anymore? All the agmeplay in all their games is trash except if they go back to basics like with Bravery.
They're more experimental with all their modern shit than Sonic the Hedgehog's tried to be. There's no consistency, just some big new switch-up idea for yet another product that takes half a decade or longer to finish as development issues and ambition culling gets the best of them.
Bravely are good, Octopath is good, Dragon Quest is good. It‘s just the FF department that‘s completely out of touch an unable tro grasp what manes a game enjoyable.
There's always people that don't want to be pleased.
