I fairly deep combat system that involves different unit types, abilities, and placements on the battlefield.
There's many units to choose from and you keep your units between battles and can level them up various ways to suit the way you want to play them.
It's been years since I've played it but it's great

I'll spoil one tip because the game never explains it, but chance of getting a prisoner starts to drop for every prisoner you have after 10 or 15 or so. So usually once your prison is full, you want to release your prisoners in groups of 5 because you get a bonus item.

Cute enemy generals are generally pretty strong units. Never sign peace treaty, listen to rance ramblings and conquer everything.

Look at their stats and pay attention to the story. If they hype up a character then they probably are good. Remember to use your satisfaction bonuses on reinforcements.
