>lacks enemy variety
>boss fights with few exceptions are the same
>exploration sucks balls - you spiderball large ass 'open' areas just to encounter spikes after 3 minutes of climb or return to previously locked doors just to encounter another wall which require another skill unlocked 2 areas ahead just to get stuck on crystals that requires clearing almost all game. There is literally no reason to backtrack before killing all metroids
>no different endings so no real reason to 100% other than speedrun purposes
I wanted to like the game but after getting jump attack I just waited for it to end. How come this game got so high notes?

nice blog, where can I subscribe?

Next time I will do something like:
>Why x is so overrated shit?

>*scratches head
go feesh

you might as well since this thread is just a thinly-veiled "I hate this game and want to shitpost about it" anyway

>pointing out blatant issues with game is shitposting
okay autismo

OP's criticisms are valid.

You got me. Fucking utterly dull Metroid game. Never not had a good time with any of them, but holy fuck I just wanted Samus Returns to end when I was halfway through.

they're perfectly valid, but there's nowhere for this thread to go. It's not like someone is going to convince op the game is good, so the only course this thread can take is a circlejerk of people hating the game and/or shitposting. OP already made up his mind when the thread was posted.

>this was supposed to be the best meotridvania on the device.

It is if you don't count NDS games.

amiiboshit don't count as games

It's a remake of one of the best Metroid games. The fact you used the term "metroidvania" tells me you just don't get it since that's not what it's remaking. Metroid II was before the concept of such a genre existed.

>It is if you don't count NDS games.
That's my issue. It's nowhere NDS levels of platformers and reading reviews it looked like second coming of Christ.
I only played Zero and Fusion ages ago and I don't remember them being "jump attack your way forward since 6/8 of the game". It looks to me more like riding on nostalgia and not looking past great AV.

Valid criticism, but it's still a solid game and a good Metroid. All the things you listed are caused by the fact that this is a remake of a Gameboy game that didn't age well. I love the original Metroid II but the flaws are evident. I wish this game wasn't held back by those things and I can't wait for a new chapter (if we'll ever get one).

>a remake of a game with a flawed foundation is boring
Wow OP, I couldn't have seen that one coming

>Let's just give it 9/10 because it looks nice

>calling a metroid game "metroidvania"
actually kill yourself

>meotridvania
Stopped reading there.

If you'd have played the original gameboy one you too would've given it a 9/10
It improves on a lot of the aspects of the original, but because its foundation was so shit it's still pretty boring

>boss fights with few exceptions are the same
What are you counting as a boss fight?

Fight where you die you start at the door to the ("boss") room.

Play am2r

I fucking hated this game when it first came out. The enemies where annoying more than threatening. I had to stop what I was doing and counter attack EVERY FUCKING BAT. It's ruins the flow. But once you get the kill beam later it dosen't really matter. The item puzzles were pretty well done I think

Fusion is far worse than Samus Returns in basically every aspect you mentioned. Please don't tell me you think it's a better game.

I played it like 10 years ago and I can't ewven remember I finished it. I was more into Castlevanias.

This game is KINO

Thank goodness. I like Super more than any castlevania, but I'd say CV has more good games than Metroid does. What's your favorite Metroidvania? I personally hate the anime style shit, but Portrait of Ruin is my #1.

based

That suffers from the same issues OP mentioned tho

OoE from older ones, now i think Bloodstained have done everything right, hell it may have too much content.

It really won't fix any of the stuff OP said.

I'd suggest you play AM2R instead, Samus Returns is fairly mediocre.

I'm very much on the fence with Bloodstained. 2.5d games are really ugly for the most part, and I don't know if I can stare at that shit long enough to finish it.

Like other people have said, the concept of what we know today as a metroidvania structure didn't really come about until Super Metroid and Symphony of the Night. Metroid II was mostly linear, where you would explore individual areas before moving on to the next. Samus Returns replicates this pretty well, but fixes most of the problems Metroid II had, which were mostly caused by the limitations of being a Game Boy game.

It's okay not to like it, but judging it from the framework of a definition that wasn't around at the time the original game released is a bit unfair.

Also there is some art you can unlock at 100% that shows some pretty dark shit about what happened to the Chozo on SR388.

What did you expect from the creators of Castlevania Mirror of Fate and Metroid Other M?
