No... that's not the reason FF XV got shat on.

The problems with XV is the lack of combat depth. There's literally nothing separating the final boss from the random enemy you encounter on the field except the stats.

World map is huge with absolutely nothing to discover except the Royal Arms. Huge amounts of sidequests that add NOTHING to the game as they're all fetch quests in some variation or another.

Abilities that you learn through ascension are so uncreative it hurts. I mean you get a set of abilities that boost a certain stat based on your level. No new moves at all except the dumb ally abilities. Noctis gets the "stay in air if using sword or spear" and that's fucking it.

Also you can't die but I guess that's actually good cause who'd beat their head around this shit battle system so the least they could've done is the character being unable to die as long as you have items in stock.

FF XV sucks fucking ass. They wanted to show the cool graphics and cutscenes instead of improving the battle system, the most important aspect in JRPG. They even failed with the cutscenes cause a lot of them felt so rushed.
Leviathan stuff was so weird to look at cause it happened so fast out of nowhere.

I didn't even get to the story being fucking ripped apart since it's not self contained.

One vital difference is that FF15 was basically an unloseable bore, you would never see the game over screen unless you wanted to. FF7 has actual resource management - you can't just pause and heal endlessly, you need to build up the ATB meter by playing well in order to use items or magic.

Here's a little context for people who didn't understand classic mode.
Classic mode is made for people that prefer to focus solely on the ATB command instead of the action aspect of the game.
It is suppose to feel like the battle system of the original but instead of having the character waiting around for player input, the characters are AI controlled to do small damage and defend.
The demo did a pretty poor job in showcasing the potential of this mode though.

What? The only thing Classic mode literally does is automatically do the basic attacks for the player character so all you have to worry about is positioning and Command skills; if you've played FFXII, it's a similar system.

On the whole, it doesn't detract from the fights at ALL and if you'd like to manually do your basic attacks then switch off Classic Mode; the game is not forcing you to use it.

I have very mixed opinions about this. On one hand, having difficulty options means that the game can have harder modes that don't cater to retards, making it superior to the original game. Their turn-based was not about 'choose attack X times' but about careful managment of your AP, abilities CD, interacting with enviroment and abusing the SHIT outta the game. Like filling a bag with 1 ton of trash and 1shotting enemies via telekinesis or teleporting ememies from the fight one by one.

True. In my opinion, one way to improve turn based games is to have every turn based game to have a grid based system or something similar that rewards positioning. That on it's own, adds a layer of mechanic and puzzle for the player to solve. For example, darkest dungeon, no grids, but positioning matters. I'd love for Japanese devs to implement such mechanic in their new JRPGs.

Oooh nice. Command materia is IN boys. There's even purple materia in Cloud's sword. And even etches to combine effect of two materias on his sword. But someone pointed out that it's possible that summon materia are made purple in the remake.
