Needs to be a game i played when i was happy with my life

any work created with passion is defined as having soul

if the game's sole purpose is to make money then it is soulless

>Passionate developers with talent and it should show in various ways
>Obviously goes the extra mile even if it's a bit jank or not super polished in the same way 1000 Pajeets employed by a AAA company can polish a game
>Can't be a minimum viable product designed for the lowest common denominator

Heart

also to be old and preferably janky as fuck with terrible mechanics and combat. Example: Mass Effect 1 - soul, Mass Effect 2 - Soulless

This. "Soul" is pretty much a synonym for passion and an antonym to "greed" and such.

That said, soul does not necessarily shows the quality of the game by itself. Great games can be soulless and still good, and vice versa.

It's not an objective measurement, you just know it when you see it
For example, TF2 is a soulful game. While Paladins is the most soulless shit
