part 3 out when
Soon. If they stop replacing memebers
Right after Azumanga Daioh season 2 which is just after Panzer Dragoon Trei
They're protesting the lack of Half Life sequels.
I remember last thread was pretty great and there was a bunch of bands I hadn't heard of.
Anyone know how to get into Meat Loafs stuff?
>how to
it's music Kevin you simply listen to it
Looks like my production order autism doesn't apply
They say they're working on it.
Literally just Bat Out of Hell.

THERE ARE NO HEROES LEFT IN MAN
For me, it's
Act 2
Act 1
The Cover-Up
This City Made Us
I drove all night casette tape with Silent Running/Breaking Out
A Night of Queen
wtf i just discovered this band why the fuck is Yea Forums suddenly having threads about it?
>Suddenly

Yea Forums used to have nightly Protomen threads. Especially at 4 am.
Act 2
Act 1
The Cover Up
This City Made Us
A Night of Queen
I flip flop on preferring Act 1 to Act 2, 2 is definitely more consistent but the stretch of ending tracks on 1 is basically the most kino shit ever made, but if I had to pick which one is better overall I'd probably go with 2.
I feel like 2 is definitely more polished and well designed but 1 has a raw energy that is hard to ignore
I feel bad for people who heard about them by going to PAX or on Yea Forums, or really any video game context.
Ideally you'd just hear about it as music and discover the game connection by listening.
It's called the frequency illusion or sometimes the Baader-Meinhof effect. It is a well-studied form of cognitive bias
en.m.wikipedia.org
K.I.L.R.O.Y., it's 4 AM, why on Earth are you lighting up the night?
That is an excellent way to describe the difference between 1 and 2: raw vs polished
Because I’ve lost control of my city.
BUT ALL OF YOUR HEROES ARE GONE
well ive been on Yea Forums a lot in the past month and i have yet to notice a single protomen thread until today, so i think your theory might be wrong
...Can we still make it right?
Because CLIIIIIMB, CLIIIIMB.
I legitimately forgot Keep Quiet was by the Protomen, it's such a good song it could be played on the radio and people wouldn't know its from a nerd band
There was one yesterday
Kilroy hugged me at the Protomen show I went to. It was surreal.
that's my point
I started listening to the Megas first, and since them and the Protomen are the two Mega Man bands I heard about them frequently enough to eventually listen to their stuff as well.
Act 2 seriously stands on its own. Even if you don't know megaman shit it still slaps.
Just found out that Joe from the Light Up The Night video is James Ransone. Eddie Kaspbrak in It Chapter Two.
Protomen are UUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH NOT GOOD
Still like them despite my greater Yea Forums tendancys. Light up the Night and The Hounds are legit good tracks.
I wish Megas would make more shit, History Repeating is so fucking good and I want more. Skulls and Chill Xmas are all we've gotten in like 5 years.
holy shit it is
>Steven Universe mutant saying a band isn't good
This is how you know they're great
That guy stole the show in it 2
I knew I recognized him from the moment I saw him in the movie, but I could not fucking place it. This thread got me looking at the video again and I audibly went motherfucker.
TEN PAGES ABOVE THE DARK STREETS OF Yea Forums
ANONYMOUS SHITPOSTED IN A RUN DOWN BASEMENT
Don't forget the Belmonts EP which was also pretty great. At this point I don't really know what they would focus on for their next album considering they've dabbled in 4, X, and a totally different series over the past few years. It's all been good though so no matter what they decide to go with I'm down.
The obvious answer is a prequel story about MM1.
You guys aren't wrong, but I can't fully agree with this. You lose so much of the experience without knowing the full context and reading the liner notes along with the music, in my opinion. It's great music on its own, but it's more impactful when you know everything about it.
THEY SAY
you get a different machine
They did that with the Megatainment EP though, even though it bothers me they didn't do songs for Cutman or Gutsman. Honestly it's still some of my favorite stuff they've done, Look What You've Done is one of their best songs ever.
kek
Fucking @ me pussy I'll cum down your throat.
This is probably true, I imagine it would've been more impactful had I know who protoman actually was.
My megaman experience is getting salty at MM 2 and dropping it because it didn't spark joy
>people come on Yea Forums to post memes from 2012 because they're desperate for any sort of nostalgia they can grasp on to
Oh yeah faggot I'll fuck you in the ass you homo
Yeah well I'll make you cum in 2 minutes with my mega tight ass pussy you fucking queero.
I'm nostalgic for having sex every day with my high school girlfriend who would scream dirty German phrases in my ears.
Oh fuck off with this shit.
There's someone who is discovering the Protomen for the first time either today or yesterday, and I'm sure they're happy to have a thread.
People are discovering stuff all the time regardless of when it came out, which is why the whole le boomer zoomer thing is fucking bullshit.
People aren't restricted to media that came out one year and cannot experience it at a later date
I just started playing Radiant Silvergun for the first time and that came out in like 98
2 songs are out, more to follow someday probably.
>tfw didn't even know there was a video for Light Up the Night until this thread...
I was at their concert in Cologne the other night. They sure know how to put on a good show. I wonder how many other cunts from Yea Forums were also there
Anybody know when these niggas coming to Florida?
why don't you check their website dumbfuck
not video games
fuck off back to Yea Forums
No one is taking that obvious bait
After I'm done making this game, I'd really like to make a 16-bit style game that has the feel you get from the Protomen albums.
That'd be really cool. Just use the Makeup and Vanity Set versions for the BGM
have sex
Damn, I didn't even know this existed. Pretty neat

If you use Spotify they have 'This is:' playlists for most artists which are usually really good introductions their work.
There's great irony in the fact that spreading this information around means that it really will be more common knowledge, but people reading it for the first time will think that them not knowing about it until now is just another example of it.

Never heard him, did he die or something?
He was set up to probably the greatest rock singer of the '80s and had a complete drug-induced nervous breakdown. The old band broke up, and he never really recovered after that. Had a few decent singles but nothing like Bat out of Hell.
Now he's this senile old dude literally wasting away in his mansion in Austin, TX.

What the fuck, Bat out of Hell is so good
Where has this been my life
Anyone got recs for rock musical films?
>Steinman the real talent behind his work
Yes and no. He wrote all the music which Meatloaf has always admitted, but Steinman also had 0 edges and even less vocal talent. It's why Steinman's shit after Meatloaf split was bad as well.
They needed each other more than Nightwish needed Tarja.
>Pat Benetar and Meatloaf never did a duet together and now it's too late.
>Joe turned to a girl who'd been ignoring him all night, leaned in, and whispered in her ear.
>Joe leaned in and stole a quick kiss from the girl. She smiled and made a move to slap him but he was already out of reach. He kicked the door open and tore out into the dark streets. Fire in his blood. He didn't know exactly where he was going. Only that he was moving. And moving was something.

Protomen live was fucking incredible outside of them not doing any of the songs with Protoman vocals. 10/10 stage presence, great crowd interaction, and Kilroy was an awesome host.
Hopefully we get Act 3 sooner than later, but I'm content with what we've got at this point.
I can't believe I only truly discovered them a few years ago. Act 1 and Act 2 are seriously some of the best albums I've ever heard. I got all my normie friends to listen to Light up the Night so much that it's actually one of our regular songs for playing Smash now. I feel like I stumbled into the party too late to get the full impact when Act 3 gets released but god, I can't wait to type lyrics from it in all caps with the rest of you.
I just want a happy ending for Tom, assuming he wasn't killed with the crowd at the end of act 1
Act 1's noisy rock should've carried over to Act 2. I like Act 2, but I need more of Act 1. Act 3 seems like its trying to mix the two, could be good.

Nah, you can still tell there's some kind of rock opera story behind it. Now, someone might not think its a rock opera tied to a video game, but it still deals with some overarching story that involves machines.
I miss Freddiew and that song was sick as hell, kinda wish Raul did more solo stuff
Why is it so quiet?
Light probably survived to build Roll and didn't give her any of the combat capability of Proto or Mega. The female voice in "Hold Back the Night" is likely Roll.

Right after man walks upon the sun
Over the years I've started to like Keep Quiet more than any other song in Act II. Every lyric is amazing, and Joe being able to defeat the machine builds on the idea that mankind could have won on its own if not for Light's tragic mistake to build heroes instead of inspiring them.
>tomorrow is september 15th
i'd forgotten
Doesn't he get his ass kicked, only to have his ass saved by Light? You're still right either way.
No, Light just asks to be the one to land the ultimate killing blow on the defeated machine. The thing was already beat by Joe and he was about to fully destroy it before Light asked.
will I still enjoy the protomen if I never played a lot of megaman games?
yeah, the story is simple to follow even if you don't The writing is pretty great for Act 1 and Act 2, thats what makes them such great concept albums
Act I is better imo
Never played them myself, in fact I don't like them at all - I still love the band
Source
Joe leaned forward and charged towards the machine. If he was going to die, he would go down swinging. He plunged his shoulder into the chest of the automaton. With every bit of strength he could summon, Joe thrust upward, and both man and machine left the ground in an arc. By the time they slammed back into the asphalt, the machine was on top, its cold hands tightening around Joe's neck. The impact sent the pipe bounding far from Joe's reach. Joe's fingers clawed at the smooth metal covering the machine, searching for a chink in its armor. His hand found the gun instead.
The light of the blast was painful, even through Joe's closed eyes. He opened them slowly. Carefully. He found the machine lying several feet away, immobilized, with a smoking hole in its chest. Its red eye fading and flickering. Joe rose. He approached the machine. He pointed the gun at the robot's head and slid his finger over the trigger, steeling himself for the blast. The gray-haired man stopped him. The man knelt down - his face inches from the machine's - and spoke, his voice gruff and trembling.
"I built this. It's mine to destroy."
With surprising speed, his right hand shot to Joe's boot and withdrew the knife. With his left hand he grabbed the machine by the jugular-shaped electrical conduit at its throat and sliced. A single swift blow. The eye went dark. The machine was dead.
So, what direction can Act III take without retreading Act I while still being true to it?
based
Roll going out to find Megaman and bringing him back to burn the cursed city to the ground before leading the survivors in place of Light.
The humans actually stand up to Wily, and show that there still is hope for them. However it's not enough, and they still need Megaman to lead them, showing that even though you shouldn't pin everything on a hero to fight your battles for you, heroes are still important
I saw The Protomen a couple of days ago in Berlin and they were fucking unreal. Even if you don't like their music they put on such a live performance that they're 100% worth going to see. 10/10 would go again next time.
A two-perspective narrative told in 9 tracks, with 4 tracks for each storyline alternating perspective, with the final being the merging of the two storylines.
Wily initially tries to convince Light that he was right about humanity, and tries to make him a subordinate to design new robots because Light was always the better engineer, and even his Robot Masters are just re-purposed Light-bots. Light, while bitter and misanthropic, still refuses to help the man who murdered the woman he loved. Invoking Emily's name pisses Wily off, and he instead declares that Light will be executed publicly in a callback to The Hounds. He taunts Light by revealing his new commander, Bass, and revealing that he'll be dispatched to eliminate Mega.
Mega meets 'Protoman' at Light's old place where he once met Joe, and regains his purpose to fight, with the idea being that it was the guy playing the guitar in Hope Rides Alone, who might've been the real Proto or maybe a copy made by Wily, or even just a human that took his identity after being inspired by him. He returns to the city, meeting Bass just outside the gates, fleeing after being overpowered and disappearing into the foundry beneath the city that supplies and maintains Wily's robot army. He sabotages the facility and encounters Protoman's remains, taking what he can to repair himself, before emerging and making his way towards the gallows where Light is going to be executed.
I've been here since 2005 and no it didn't. There was an occasional thread here and there, but don't just bullshit and give people the impression that there was a regular thread every day.
>Looks like my production order autism doesn't apply
it still does apply to music, but you should probably listen to an artist's top singles first, to know what you're in for before you get started. but an artist like frank zappa is almost crucial you get into in production order
In the final track, Mega interrupts Light's execution, storming the podium where Wily is personally going to carry it out, killing Bass after a short battle due to inferior programming meaning he's unable to learn like he and Proto were, and saving his father. At the same time, the foundry erupts, destroying most of Wily's army and revealing the secret industry under the city, lighting up the night with the glow of red-hot metal. Wily begs for his life, but Mega kills him and avenges his brother. He and Light rise above the masses as the city destroys itself and the robots shut down, leaving them where they were at the start of Act 2, with humanity free from the darkness but on their own again. To survive, men must become heroes, as Light intended. There will be no more men to turn the wheel for them.
The album is a bookend, calling back to previous parts and acting as an ultimate conclusion while also being open-ended.
You must have missed them, around 2011 there were threads almost every single night
2011-2013 had some very regular protomen threads. don't pretend they weren't /ourguys/
No there weren't. You guys must have some loose definitions of the word regular.
Whether there were or not nightly Protomen threads in the past, as long as I'm awake there will be a Protomen thread
>i didn't pay attention to the threads then so they must have never happened!
cope harder
You ever think that you might possibly have just... I dunno... missed them? I remember having threads all the time on them, that's part of the reason I checked them out in the first place, because all of the threads all the time.

>Light Up the Night is so hype it makes you think Joe has hope for one brief moment
None of this is Yea Forums. This is off topic.
Neither is your post, his post is at least interesting.
>The humans actually stand up to Wily, and show that there still is hope for them.
But the very theme of Act I is that there are no more heroes (people who know/realize that they are free) left in mankind.
Pointing out a bannable offense doesn't constitute "off topic". Thanks for showing us that you don't understand how anything works, buddy retard.
Yes... keep bumping our thread... thank you :^)
Joe did Light up the Night, the city just failed to use the flames he gave them, and Light built heroes instead of telling Joe's story to inspire more.
I've wondered if Wily actually got killed by the explosions and the "Wily" operating out of the factory is just a Wily Machine. It'd have to retcon Act I though, so it's pure speculation in case the building Wily broadcasts from in The Hounds is one of the buildings Joe blows up.
Hey guys when Wily chants MY FATHER'S BATTLE WILL BE WON at the end of The Good Doctor, what's the backstory to that?
t. never played Megaman
You mean Light? Well you see, his father worked the mines, until the day it took his life.
Oh, it's Light? It sounds so much like Wily's voice, I just assumed.
Saw them in London a week ago, amazing concert.
Talked to KILLROY after the concert, dude has a fucking metal grill. Gambit was sweet and took loads of pictures with everyone and the commander was arguing with the venue staff as they were kicking them out as they stayed on stage for too long
>all these posts preferring Keep Quiet over Light up the Night
I thought I was the only one who felt this way
for several months there were almost daily threads. It's what got me to listen to them in the first place. Fuck off. Just because you didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen.
>he doesn't know about sage
You heard the lyric wrong. It's "your father's battle will be won."
It's been a while since I've read the inserts/watched the video, but wasn't the tower already rigged to blow when Joe arrived, implying Wily knew about the attack and used it in his favor
Yes there was, retard. You literally couldn't escape Protomen posting during 2011. I saw at least one thread every day. Fucking kill yourself, r/the_donald refugee.
Act 1 is a dramatization of the series
Act 2 is entirely fanfiction. Read the liner notes on lyric websites
I've been here since 2006. There were tons upon tons of Protomen threads around 2011, and on the off chance that someone didn't make one, the 4:00 a.m. thread would double as one.
Considering your posts bumped the thread, it's a shame you didn't use it
CLIIIIIMB
CLIIIIIMB
TO THE TOP
OF THE WORLD
IIRC that was made up by a fan film. In the album Joe was the one placing explosives on buildings, and he pressed the detonator before the robots could reach and kill him.
Keep Quiet has a lot more emotion than Light Up the Night. They're both great, yes, but Light Up, while being a wonderful hype song, doesn't have near as much emotion as Keep Quiet.
If the lyrics
"There's worse things
than death here...
There's LOSS and there's SILENCE and Sadness."
Didn't make you feel anything at all then there's something wrong with you. (I'm being hyperbolic, but still)
The Protomen made that film, user
CAUSE YOU AND I, TOM, WE ARE MEN
AND WE CAN BEND AND WE CAN BREAK
Am I an earlet for having such a hard time figuring out this son? I needed the lyrics and multiple listens to more or less hear the words.
He's saying the robots he and Wily are building will take over backbreaking labor from men, so that no son will ever have to say "my father worked into his grave."
The singer has weird pronunciation for certain words
Didn't they merely promote it since they thought it was cool?
>remember the lyrics threads about these albums in 2010
>it's now almost a decade later and no Part 3
You'd like Bruce Springsteen as well.

But what about Haruhi season 3?
what do you think of his other stuff? I've only listened to bad for good, I was thinking of listening to original sin since an user recommended it in one of these threads
In b4 404.
I love protomen threads and ESPECIALLY 4am threads and Lightuo the Night threads.
Janitors must have had his shit kicked in my MegaMan 3 to hate our threads this much.
Never ever
>Jannies
I remember about a month ago there was some videogame thread and they moved it /qa/
Jannies also hate FFXIV threads on Yea Forums because they're WoWshills.
Bruce has a lot of great songs. God damn, wish he was young again, because his music nowadays is so shit.
youtube.com
do 4am threads even happen anymore
Yeah but jannies delete them after about 50 posts.
I start 4am threads sometimes and they die with no replies
Jim isn’t the best singer but it’s pretty good too. I actually prefer the Taylor Dayne version of original sin from the shadow soundtrack.
But didn't that still start as a fan project years later that The Protomen thought was cool? There's no point in the factory having a transmitter if all the screens are gone. The factory only has a loudspeaker that would work anyway.
