Leave > In Water
So if James came back to Silent Hill because he wanted to be punished then 'Leave' is the "better" ending no? In 'In Water' he commits suicide but by leaving with Laura in 'Leave' it's implied that he goes on to adopt her as well but this is also exactly where my contention lies. Is it not worse for a man to raise a constant reminder of his past wrongdoings than just kill himself?
Silent Hill 2
bump
I think it's better to be alive and with a semblance of family than the be dead.
But that's just me,
James is too selfish to commit sudoku. in water is completely out of character. same with leave.
he either stays in the town with Maria or tries to revive Mary.
people like to push character growth on him but that's just not James.
>Is it not worse for a man to raise a constant reminder of his past wrongdoings than just kill himself?
I guess you could say it's a way of him talking responsibility.
He didnt even do anything wrong.
>people like to push character growth on him but that's just not James
He's clearly growing, as showed by the last Pyramid Head fight
You talk about James as if you actually knew him, like is a friend of yours or something.
What the fuck do you know about James anyway.
In Water sucks and is the worst ending. This is indisputable fact
Reading this thread, I want a "Virgin Leave" vs Chad "In Water" meme
i like leave the most because its the only one that gives closure on laura
>he either stays in the town with Maria or tries to revive Mary
This does seem most in character for him
>people like to push character growth on him but that's just not James
This is where you lose me
Leave is the good ending. In Water is the "canon" ending.
There's nothing "out of character" about James either of those endings. That ending is part of his character, if you play the game that way. It's up to you/James to decide how to deal with the truth. And Mary wanted him to get the Leave ending.
The only out of character endings are the Dog and Rebirth endings.
I mean, you could argue that Rebirth can also be in-character, character-wise it's not very different from the Maria ending. But it's silly and unrealistic.
Obligatory
The beauty of SH2 is that it is open to interpretation, which is why this bait is completely valid.
To fully understand James' character it's crucial to listen to Fungo's playthrough with Guy Cihi:
Hey bros, playing SH1 for the first time. It’s also my first ps1 game. I’m liking it so far, just got the pistol and I’m supposed to go to the elementary to find his daughter. What am I in for?
Guy is just a voice actor, he didn't write James
Or, I shouldn't say "canon" but rather """real""". The game is basically designed to give you that ending. It's the easiest to get. That's not a coincidence.
Check em guys.
Clearly you don't know the game. The character is based on his personality. Guy Cihi basically is James, and vice versa.
A bunch of ammo
Sh2 took place in 1989.

>In Water is the "canon" ending.
The canon ending for 2 is left totally ambiguous. All we know is that James was never seen again.
Is there an English version of this somewhere?
Get baked my nigga you're in for a fuckin RIDE
Nah. Someone only recently found it and uploaded it to archive a few days ago.
The quick translation. You can use image translate to do the same.
>0 - Alessa's split
>7 years later - SH1 events
>12 years later - Harry kills a kultist in Portland
>10 years later - Walter Sulivan's murders
>James comes to SH (unclear if it's James/Mary's visit or the events of the game)
>24 years later, SH3 events
>20 years later, Sh4 events.
If you assume SH3 takes place in 2003, you get these dates:
>Origins = 1979
>1 = 1986
>2 = 1989
>3 = 2003
>4 = 1999
Where were you guys when James Sutherland got his ass kicked by Harry Mason
No matter what you say, In Water is canon.
In Water is canon.
explain why and how then
Creator said so.
got any source for that claim, nigger
and you believed him?
He was a random dude living in japan, who walked into a Konami audition while eaiting for his daughter and got hired because he spoke English, and you expect me to believe the game was written based on his life story?
"Canon" endings only matter when talking about a sequel that follows one of them. Trying to force one ending as canon when talking about the game itself is just doing a disservice to the work they did putting multiple endings in in the first place. And a dev saying a certain ending is his favorite doesn't mean the others can't be discussed.
In water is the best ending and Mary's end monologue makes me want to hang myself.
What if his story actually coincided with the game script?
I never understood all this autistic obsession about what is canon and what is not. I mean, nigger, it's already proven there are infinite parallel universes.
Canon endings on SH games are always the ones that involve the dog or aliens, if anyone says otherwise he's a brainlet
It's not about which ending is better. Not canon.
Well shit I guess this is the absolute truth.
Revive best ending
James is so selfish he can't let go so he does everything in his power to get Mary back. In the end james fails to succesfully revive mary and ends up becoming some kind o pinwheel abomination
In water is also good
Leaves gives me good feels but it's out of touch with james character imo
Jame's cool. You're the only one who's out of touch.
