A matter of opinion, but I gotta say nah. Not really. The exp penalty is a bit too high. There needed to be SOME kind of penalty, but the way it is now kind of lends itself to having you ignore a few of your students and if they get RNG screwed it's hard for them to recover even with stat boosters growing on trees.
You realize how easy everything is on the first run and so you play a lot faster and looser on your others. You don't fuck about in Garreg Mach for nearly as long either. You'll probably find yourself skipping a lot of Part 1 altogether since it's mostly the same.
The Edelgard route gave me the same creepy feeling the bad end of P3 did, where the characters all act happy as if nothing is wrong but the impending situation is horrifying, like they've had the souls sucked from their bodies.

Nah. Steel is heavy and usually just used for the extra oomph for Combat Arts (or if you're fast/strong enough for it to not matter). Iron Sword/+ is usually better for general use.

Felix has 9 speed base. Let's assume he's level 10, with 5 levels in Mercenary. That's 5 levels of 55% speed growth and 5 levels of 60% speed growth. Rounding up puts him at an average of 15 speed at that level. His strength is 1 higher and his growths are identical so that puts him at an average of 16 strength. This means a steel sword, with 10 weight, weighs him down by 7 points, giving him an AS of 8, meaning he literally can only double units with AS of 4. Stop lying about playing on hard or pretending it counts when you savescum str/spd levels you fucking retards.
Is it me or does the BE students fucking suck as units? I tried doing a maddening run with them and it was awful. Beside Edelgard the only reliable units were Petra and Bernie, though Bernie required her personal skill to do damage it was still great at chipping. Caspar and Ferdinand were awful and Lindhart and Dorothea seem to both be built around being mixed mages seeing as they're in the same house, and Hubert was okay but not any more impressive then the other mages I had ever used beside Mire B. which is weird .

I would rank her as maybe the worst unit in the game, though she is no Gwendolyn or anything. Her base stats when you get her are just awful, it feels like they didn't consider just how low they when for when you get her. At best I only ever found use in her as a dancer, supported good units and could use fortify on occassion. Still, I say always use your favorites, no one in this game is irredeemable, just more difficult to make good.

You are WAY overestimating enemy speed. I just booted up a chapter, and the only enemies Felix can't double with Aegis Shield and an iron sword are two pegasi and Petra. He's still faster than the pegasi. If I gave him steel instead of iron, they could double him, but no one else.

How do those reinforcements work? Are they turn based or just spawn if you make your way deep enough into the map? If its the former then camping outside they spawn range may help.

This is why the game has 4 routes user, and another incentive to repeat one in maddening.
She can get screwed by rng but the good growths she does have are great for archers, she just struggles when you try to have her do anything else. Sniper and Bow Knight are the natural route for her but wyvern and pegasus are fantastic on Bernie. I usually make her a brigand once it becomes available to her, the strength growths while in the class and death blow help patch her up.

Deathblow and lethality are great skills for archers to patch their inability to kill when they're unblessed
After two turns the first reinforcements appear, there are four of them and they move as soon as they appear. You struggle to kill them, Gilbert most likely dies during this, and then two turns later four more appear as if nothing happened. I haven't been able to get passed the second wave without someone dying, it's hell.

I have shields on a lot of characters, but most of them have weight -3 as well to offset it. Seems to work ok since training weapons are nearly weightless anyway.
I could see how shields are retarded though, speed is such an important attribute with how narrow the window is double attacks and the dodge it gives is massive per point of speed loss. Seems like you'd lose something like 8% dodge for adding an additional two weight to someone.

It ended up being a half-assed route that felt way less polished than the others and only made all the other characters dumb instead of giving Edelgard and friends time to shine.
I think if it was polished up a bit more and had a couple more chapters to smooth out the pacing, it'd be a lot better.

They will always ask instead of auto joining, so don't worry about it. Also, it doesn't hurt to recruit at least one or two. It can make some interesting stuff. There's also certain paralogues that only unlock if you have two characters (Caspar and Mercedes for example)
I ended mine as a brawling Warmaster. He just x4'd everything and crit in every battle.

I think theirs unlock because you're still in the academy, and therefore surrounded by all the students still. What I'm talking about primarily affects the timeskip
Pre-timeskip you get any paralogue as long as you have one of the students/staff in your house. They unlock on a given date and if you recruit one of the students after it would normally unlock it gives it to you the next time it can.
Post-timeskip you won't get the paralogue if you don't have all members in your house for obvious reasons.

unless you're on maddening just stick her in a aux battle with no weapon as a brigand and watch the class exp go up, then when she mastered the class equip the weapon and murder everything
