Rural deep south

>rural deep south
>friend asks me for a link for something league related
>its on an informational twitch channel
>on his internet, i was able to load it instantly minutes prior
>go home
>at&t internet aka worst than rural 3rd world internet, spends 5 minutes trying to load the same page, then tells me "failed to load module"
>attempt to reload the page about 4 times after each failed load
>no success
I HAVE BEEN SHOWN THE SPEEDS OF THE GODS AND IT IS NOT SOMETHING I CAN JUST LET GO

Dunno what you want to discuss, so I want to ask a question;
What ISP should a fag stuck in Cali go for?

I had the same problem for a while user. AT&T is terrible and the only salivation is Mediacom, which isn't much better, but at least there's 2 service providers around here and it's not a localized monopoly.

not at&t, thats all im gonna tell you

internet speeds from the dial-up era
put way too many people on the same line, absolutely shitting up your ping and making it spike randomly
absolute jews about anything concerning upgrading their lines
"we are upgrading lines in your area but ahhhh its not happening specifically where you live ahhhh maybe in 10 years we will get to where you live" no joke its like the cable company episode of south park where they were rubbing their nipples and shit

>no joke its like the cable company episode of south park where they were rubbing their nipples and shit

Kek.
That said, user, Google is slowly making their way down south. In 5 years, you may know true speed.

>What ISP should a fag stuck in Cali go for?
Spectrum. Stay away from Frontier
This is the speed I currently get however
1.) It's over wifi
2.) With several other devices on my network streaming shit
So this isn't even my networks final form

Attached: internet.png (498x455, 28K)

Also for fags complaining about asymmetric uplink and downlink, I'm pretty sure it's a shitty router bottleneck, again, this is over wifi

if anyone wants i will show a speed test, assuming my fucking internet doesnt have a panic attack
also pic related, its unironically how at&t treats their customers

Attached: download.jpg (307x164, 8K)

Do it so we can all laugh at you

keep the thread alive while i spend a few minutes waiting for the page to load

So rural deep south here
Just a friendly reminder my local power company also sells the internet.

1.5 gbps is only 71 dollars a month. Could get the next upgrade but damn whats the point.

Also this company gives zero fucks what I pirate or look at.

If you're rich/poor/middle comcast, if you're pretty rich Google fiber. If you dumb poor att, if you're poor whatever poor people use.

>Also this company gives zero fucks what I pirate or look at.
Literally no ISP actually gives a fuck about what you pirate or look at. The "They're gonna v& you!" shit is a meme started by VPN companies to sell more subs. Maybe Comcast would care but if you're still using Comcast you deserve it.

>8ms latency
Now try connecting to literally any non-local server

Sadly comcast is the only other option besides tacky as fuck satellite choices. So yeah for here I guess it matters.

my connection is too slow for speedtest.net to load so i had to use google's
rural georgia by the way

Will flashing my router to dd-wrt or openwrt make it gain faster speeds?

>WiFi is 55 down 7 up
>ethernet is 45 down 8 up
wtf

Comcast isn't bad but they'll gouge your wallet. If you have no problems cutting the chord for cable and just get internet it is better.

Yikes! Surely even in rural Georgia you could get a better ISP than that. Are you still using DSL?

i get the lowest possible speed at&t has to offer on dsl, which is literally dialup speed on dsl
also the only isp available in my area because of monopoly laws for isps in the us

COX or OZARKZ internet

I remember flashing dd-wrt to my older Linksys router because the stock firmware didn't have aggressive enough QoS. If it's an older router you will be able to tweak more settings for speed gains, however for modern routers you typically see less of a difference as router manufacturers have gotten a lot better at configuring the stock firmwares in recent years.

I haven't played a game with a server browser in a long time. Nowadays it's just locational matchmaking, and that's fine, I wouldn't want to be matched up with anyone outside except Japan who are close enough.

also before you tell me to upgrade my plan, thats literally the highest speed they will let me go up to
50 bucks a month

You shouldn't be using DSL in this day and age. Try and get cable internet.

My grandmother literally got AT&T and hasn't used it fuckin once and they sent her a bill already. I think my grandmother is literally retarded to sign up for a service just because she wants a house phone and to watch cable with fuckin constant commercials just to watch General Hospital or the same Family Feud reruns over and over ad nauseam.

Do you even have regular access to electricity or does Congress have to pass a Georgian version of the Tennessee Valley Authority

OZARK internet? Arkansas has an internet brand now?

OMG YASSSSSS WE NEED PRESIDENT BERNIE TO DESTROY THE INTERNET MONOPOLY THAT COMCAST HAS AND DO GOVERNMENT RUN INTERNET YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Comcast is just below average in my experience. Not enough there to justify the price.

yeah i have electricity and we got a law like a year ago or something to allow power companies to run internet lines but georgia is full of locally owned power companies that arent concerned with that
>try and get cable internet
i only have one isp option
they also ran a lane half a mile from my house, not hooked up to anything, just to cockblock another isp out of running decent lines to my area
im not fucking kidding, at&t is run by the biggest jews in the isp business and you absolutely should not give your money to them

Nobody is saying that. Besides Comcast literally became a monopoly in the first place thanks to lobbying the Federal Government to begin with
Also people forget but once upon a time a single company, Bell Labs, controlled all of Americas phone services prior to the 1980s. So things have actually improved since then

Place I lived in Louisiana didn't even have ISPs. Our only option was a satellite dish, so we could lose our connection if a duck flying overhead farts.

>my phone data speed is faster
Fucking WHAT

Attached: 1564719474462.gif (400x225, 506K)

Too be honest it sounds almost humbling living somewhere without internet. I wouldn't mind having an excuse to avoid you faggots for once and kick my internet addiction.

so what are your thoughts about the internet not being considered a basic utility

*ran a line half a mile from my house

Ask yourself: "Do I REALLY need the internet?" The answer is probably no, you don't.

big isps and the government are too cozy and they should both get fucked

The more I hear about life in rural areas, the more city living doesn't seem so bad.

sure you do
try to figure out where to get certain state services without the use of the internet

Weird, the longer I live in some generic cosmopolitan hell the more I want to escape to some rural flyover state and live a humble quiet life,

Attached: 1547516908327.gif (498x416, 89K)

I remember when ISPs jewing everyone was the boogieman of every Twitter faggot and imbecile two years ago.
Didn't pan out that way, did it?

Why are electricity and home telephones not a basic utility?

General hospital is still airing?

Phones were faster than that 15 years ago. I've had 90+Mbit phone speed since ~2013 when LTE really took off. Fuck cable internet just tether to your phone.

Yeah sure what good does the town Civic Center/Town Hall do amiright?

Attached: 5c64b992d450f41dd041bdc7a0ef46fddde6c0ca7bf7984a6ad632c040a63207.gif (390x373, 2.52M)

maybe in a city
i get 100 KB/s speeds on my phone with 4G

For people with children yes since it's pretty much mandatory for school/home work. Only access I have to internet is my phone and I don't really use it other than porn, Netflix, gps, and paying bills. Phones with data are far more important than internet through cable companies.

>95% of non-networking job opportunities are online now
>almost all state/federal processes can be done online now
>online shopping is outpacing retail
>online video is outpacing cable
>online gaming is growing bigger every year, multiplayer or not
>most banking is now digital too

I don't want the government to come in and nationalize it, but holy shit cable companies are shitters and if you ever have to live somewhere rural, expect to pay $150 a month for 10Mb/s and 50GB data because Verizon won't run another 500 feet of fiber. Or Comcast just being cunts in general and having a nearly literal Monopoly for places with no other high-speed

Ideal is living in a rural town that's still close enough like an hour away to a medium sized city.

Yes, it's still garbage but watchable garbage. Dark Shadows was the only good soap opera because of the horror themes.

Online services are only growing because we as a society let it happen. Start a movement user. Be the change you want to see!

Global internet without needing cell towers is in the near future.

>home telephone
Only literal boomers have them and a cellphone is far superior but quite a bit of boomers are too retarded to learn how to use them.

Far rural areas are unironically more expensive unless you want to own real estate.
Sure gas is 30ยข cheaper a gallon, but anytime you want to go to the closest town to get groceries, enjoy your 30 miles round trip. Food isn't any less expensive, and depending on how far you are from the coast, fish and imports can get even more expensive. Internet is hyper expensive unless you're lucky, with your option of a satellite hotspot or a dish based internet with low caps. Schools are shit if you want a family, and unless you work remote (good luck without good internet), you'll have limited places to work and improve your income.

Then, you'll be stuck and never able to leave.

Thanks to Elon Musks starlink American ISPs will take over the world!

Attached: 1515310267904.jpg (472x461, 30K)

Game of Thrones was a soap opera and normalfags loved that shit.

Complaining to companies doesn't help, I literally want to throw $+400 at Verizon a year for them to run fiber and they refuse because muh investment, even though economies of scale justify them implementing it as an investment over time as they'd have no competition here. Fuck them, and fuck Comcast niggers too.

>online shopping is outpacing retail
Not for everything because getting meat through the mail sounds disgusting, you never know if the quality will be what you want, and people actually like to leave the house once in a while else cabin fever sets in.

Whole Foods delivery is perfect

It has themes of a soap opera but not exactly a soap opera. Mad Men was a literal soap opera period piece.

Physical grocery shopping will be outpaced by online. Even Amazon, the largest online retailer on the fucking planet, bought Whole Foods for a reason. Even they know grocery shopping only works in real life.

I live in the sticks and it's better than that at least, though you can hardly call it acceptable. 20/1 for $40 and 300gb cap.
Fuckers even scrambled up half my cable channels so the TV tuner can't decode them without their box after the FCC said they could do that. Ajit Pai has been a godsend to cable cos looking to get off on customer torment.

Do you write down a website on a piece of paper and have a courier run to the store and print it off for you?

My dad's place only has cable and internet via satellite. If it rains good fucking luck. And he pays so much for shit tier speed. I've thought multiple times of moving in with him to save money on rent and he'd be cool with it. But I just can't deal with his internet.

Cox pretty much dominates where I live but at least they give me somewhat decent speed. I wish Verizon or Google would hurry the fuck up.

Attached: 8588527889.png (350x200, 21K)

might as fucking well with how hard at&t is fucking me without lube

you want some AT&T bro?

Attached: spd.jpg (466x98, 13K)

You get that with AT&T? I get stopped by them every now and then at Wal-mart and talk to them about my plan and the guys pretty much tell me that I'm better off sticking with Cox

Pretty much my only choice is Cox or AT&T. Charter offered an hour away in a place I was thinking of moving but they were kinda crap the few months I stayed

yeah but I'm in TX, I just wanted to pretend to be deep south.

>takes me hours to get what you get in a second
fuck these niggers at at&t
first to go on day of the rope

Ah. The most AT&T offers down here is like a 150 Mb line for the same price as my Cox one so they were like nah not worth. Kinda cool they didn't try to talk me into a downgrade I suppose.

someday i will be able to get .1 mb/s i swear
and on that day i will be able to load more pages
