Can somebody explain what this autistic rivalry and controversy is all about? The concept of a "x-store exclusive" is retarded. It's just a launcher. Anyone who has a PC has access to all the games on every launcher. How is it different from using Origin, Uplay, BattleNet and the like? Why are people throwing a tantrum over EGS? I'd understand if EGS was exclusively on iOS, then there would be legitimate reason to complain about its exclusives, but the current rivalry looks like artificially created "console" war.

>exclusively on iOS
MacOS*
Sorry, brainfart.

Except that Epic Games Store cockblocked games that already had a schedule Steam release.
I couldn't care less because most non-indie games weren't going to get a DRM-free release anyways, but I can see why Steam users are mad.

Let's put it this way. I give 0 fucks about supporting publishers, I only pay for games on steam because all the extra features make a better experience, Epic lacks them so I'm not paying for games there.

>Except that Epic Games Store cockblocked games that already had a schedule Steam release.

Who cares? It's not like you could preorder it with the exception of Metro Exodus, which got all the same support as the EGS version

It's exclusively not on Linux, which is shitty
"Just a different launcher" doesn't sound like much until it comes to refund policy, modding, key activation, toubleshooting, et cetera. Steam is a more stable platform with vastly superior options.
We shouldn't keep defending excluisive rights as viable competition. Corporate jackoffs paying each other out should not be an issue that a consumer has to consider when buying a game.

t. cucked incel

But why does it matter which store it releases on? Other than the inconvenience of having to spend 5-15 minutes setting up an account once, there's no difference where you launch the game from. I'm trying to understand what this controversy is about and why it sends some steam users into an autistic frenzy.

>Check the top 5 on Twitch
>None of them are Steam games
>2/5 are Epic Store exclusive

OH NO NO NO NO NO

Attached: top twitch views.png (1542x517, 272K)

Shenmue was promised to release on Steam, and they were even tring to deny refunds for that.

Doesn't make supporting a monopolistic regime any better, fuckboy.

its annoying shitposters. They just make bad threads and yell about drones whenever someone tells them to fuck off

Also happened with Anno. Like 2 weeks after they "promised" to never do that again.

And you must be retarded to support a company like epic, with everything they're doing to the PC ecosystem. Tim Sweeney HIMSELF, while at war with Microsoft for attempting the same shit on PC wrote a huge article about why the walled garden approach and exclusivity is a horrible thing for PC. HE HIMSELF WROTE IT. HE even wrote that it's something that needs to be resisted against and fought by everyone involve. Little did he know that a year later Tencent would own nearly half of his company and change his mind 180 degrees by giving him billions of dollars.

see

this and as an example and

thats more of a publisher issue, not epic.
blame shenmue creator for selling out

It wasn't promised to be released on steam during its kickstarter campaign, it was added later on and changed later on again. This is fucking kickstarter, they couldn't even provide refunds if they wanted to. Thank god epic is here to save even crybabies. Not that there is more than 10 people that after waiting 10 years will refund it because it's on another launcher

Bringing console style bribery for exclusives to PC it's cancer. It's understandable with launchers like Origin or the MS store those are self published 1st party games but none of those other stores are paying publishers to take their game off other stores.

>but the current rivalry looks like artificially created "console" war
For the most part it is. Steam users don't give a shit if a game is on Epic because we can and will just pirate the fucking thing. Its only Epic shills who are creating this rivalry.

I didn't care about Epic until they threw money around to have (timed) exclusives.
That's entirely anti consumer.

What a load of bullshit, first of all. He said that 5 years after tencent invested in epic and second of all he was and still is against UWP. UWP would prevent any sort of competition on pc, epic is not against competition. In fact, they are bringing it back to pc gaming after steam fucked over other storefronts from 0's.

>Anyone who has a PC has access to all the games on every launcher.
Well that's just not true. Steam supports Linux and the EGS does not.

Somebody make a program that logs you into everything with one click already, I don't enjoy multiple accounts and stuff, and I just want the safety that strong passwords hold.

why does it need explaining
why do you care
all of that is corporation knife fight literally irrelevant to an average consumer

>shit posting flooding the board and anti-consumer practices is not affecting us
Nice

>artificially created "console" war
Yeah, and finally pcfags can shit post about it like the rest of us. Just let them have their fun

Does any of that matter? They essentially lied to their backers for a sweeter deal, one that they certainly did not have to take after already raising millions. They could provide a DRM free copy, or steam keys, but apparently that's too hard even after it's been proven to work.
There is no excuse for Epic's tendency so spit on you after pissing in your face

>He said that 5 years after tencent invested in epic
Tencent's investment was initially very small. They did not own 40% off the bat. They started small and then took additional small bites over time. The big one a couple years back was when they took that massive chunk and got to 40%.

>they are bringing it back to pc gaming after steam fucked over other storefronts from 0's.
THAT is bullshit. Steam did nothing to any other storefront. They're all still there, selling their own games. Simply existing is not fucking someone over. EPIC is the only actively and aggressiverly fucking people over.

Don't they all have options to start on boot?

>shit posting flooding the board and anti-consumer practices
nigger have you lived under a rock for the past 10 years or something?
Yea Forums is a shill central for over a decade now

>They did not own 40% off the bat. They started small and then took additional small bites over time. The big one a couple years back was when they took that massive chunk and got to 40%.
Source?

Shit posts ALWAYS flood this board, all that changes is the flavor of shit.

Just sign up ofr the EGS and get the free games niggas

I don’t support epic game store because it does seem have any games I’m pressingly interested in. I play tf2, for honor, FFXIV, Under-Night, and skullgirls. Any other game I play is either not on any launcher like Minecraft or on my Switch.

This shit here also kind of activates my almonds. So it solidifies me not supporting epic. Oh, and fortnite annoys me.

>use the Steam controller API to get my ancient as fuck/finicky peripherals to work.
>Epic doesn't have that.
>When Epic gets a game they make sure it's store exclusive so it won't be available on Steam
>This makes me angry

Is that simple enough for you Chang or do I need to write it in Mandarin?

Attached: Stardust.jpg (408x260, 49K)

yeah does not mean i should like it. we have enough shit no more on the pile please

LITERAL Epic paid shills flooded the board, then trolls took over.

Also fucked over those who backed or bought a game early by delaying the steam access.

Then blatantly lies about steams business model to make themselves seem better or in a moral right, which their actions say the opposite.

Stock manipulation via buying X amount of a game if it undersells. supposedly to 'help the developer' but no its for their fucking stock.

also the partnership with literally one of chinas worst companies.

Run by one of the worst people in the industry

Or bittorrent and then not have a useless launcher wasting memory

>the guys that convinced them to sellout are completely blameless
HAHAHAHAH, no.

I wouldn't care if the Epic Games store wasn't total garbage. It's somehow even worse than fucking Origin was on release. Let that sink in for a bit.

feels like people forget that thanks to epic exclusivity some game were remove from steam and even funded games that were promised to be release on any platform become exclusive to epic

youtu.be/XPac9Tj68KA?t=1069

getting conflicting information but this was from an interview with swiney.

basically, its wasn't that repulsive that much about epic hate. it just that people upset when video games on PC, being held as exclusive hostage, the same as console platform. im sure people will not get angry if developers and publishers just agree on both store platform, steam and epic. having a freedom to choose where to buy where to keep is better than having

Being someone who detests EA I’m honestly intrigued and amused. Care to share the details of how?

Thanks.

I never got this either. If you have a PC, you can use both. It's not like Sega vs. Nintendo where you have to buy different hardware to do both.
This is a good point. Fucking Shenmue III

>But why does it matter which store it releases on?
it doesn't until you leave the consumer no other choice by taking it away. if moneyhatting and exclusive shit didn't happen this thread wouldn't exist and people could pick whatever store(s) they wanted and everyone would be happy playing video games. instead we get console war tier rubbish.

There's no reason for it to exist, and it's more pathetic than the console war even though everyone admits Xbox is inferior in every way. The only difference between the two groups from my observation is that trannies and homosexuals are on the "epic side", but I just came to that conclusion because the epic queers have been shilling BL3 for some reason. Steam idiots are just nerds.

EGS thread?

Attached: ghost pussy.jpg (1024x576, 108K)

The problem isn't the launcher. The problem is that they are DRM platforms following the fad of trying to be the next Steam, and they will all eventually fail or be axed in favor of even more restrictive access schemes (like Streaming) taking any and all investment you've sunk into the platform with it.

The only acceptable launcher out there is GOG, because they give you a DRM-free copy of the data for local backup.

Attached: Looks like girl porn.jpg (1435x440, 120K)

Origin is bootleg steam, but Epic doesn't even pretend that it wants to include usable features. Their catalog organization is a mess, and if I were to buy anything I think I would get an aneurism before finding it

But they're not exclusive. Am I not understanding something or are you people retarded? You can download the launcher and register an account in 10 minutes, and then the entire library is available to you, like it would be if you were using Steam. This argument makes no sense to me.
>Its only Epic shills who are creating this rivalry.
So you think it's a chink marketing campaign to make Epic store more popular? That does make sense. It's a bit hard to believe that people would get so hysterical and bothered over something so trivial.
Because it puzzles me and I want to understand it.

Stea user forums are so fucking useful when I need them, I assume anyone who downplays it is just being contrarian

You're signing up for their DRM scheme and (lack of) features. You can't see how well a game is liked by the community without going to (((IGN))) or some faggy discussion site (here).
So, in the void context of knowing what game you want and not caring about anything other than playing the game, maybe it's fine. Modding, reviews, achievements, developer contact, pre-downloading (for that steam pre order that got bought out), cloud saves, and many other things are closer to impossibilities.

What's amusing is, all the zoomers crying about Epic have no frame of reference prior to 2010, as they all were in kindergarten at the time. I wonder how many of them know that Counter-Strike, Dota, Portal, L4D, and Team Fortress were all third-party IPs that Valve moneyhatted and made Steam exclusives with the implicit objective of locking people into their launcher; similar to what they did with Half-Life 2, which ironically was the last time Valve created an in-house IP.
Valve's entire business model (up until they pivoted to the loot box business model) was to snap up as many exclusives as possible and lock people into their platform. This is a fact.

>So you think it's a chink marketing campaign to make Epic store more popular? That does make sense. It's a bit hard to believe that people would get so hysterical and bothered over something so trivial.

It's the opposite. There are multiple discords and even whole sub on reddit full of people wanting to keep steam monopoly on pc, it's not paid. They are just realy stupid. Most people don't love epic nor do they hate it, it's just another launcher. And we are here just making fun on steamdrones

I genuinely wouldn't have an issue with it if it wasn't spyware and it didn't pay for exclusivity deals which are blatantly anti-consumer in the first place.

>being held as exclusive hostage, the same as console platform
It's not the same at all. You don't have to pay several hundred dollars to have an access to these games. Am I being rused or are you people huffing dead sewer rats?
Agreed. As a pirate chad, GOG is the only somewhat acceptable alternative to me, but, out of principle, I still can't support video games that aren't available in physical format.

>moneyhatted
they were already mods for Valve games. Not buying the IPs and hiring their developers would only mean that the mods would be spread across a trillion different sites, and Steam would also be a requirement.
Portal was only a college project before Valve got to it.

>aren't available in physical format
you can put a DRM free game on a DVD or USB drive

If you can only get a game through one store then it is in fact exclusive.

The relevant part is more that they were licensed exclusives, rather than that they happened to be on a better platform
You're not wrong, but it's less relevant the way you say it

>If you can only get a game through one store then it is in fact exclusive.

You lived to see a day when Microsoft of all companies is less restrictive and more consumer friendly on the PC platform than fucking Epic.

Attached: Bill-Gates-vaccine.jpg (640x426, 132K)

Store exclusive, which doesn't mean anything when you still have access to every store on Windows.

Steam drones are the losers of the animal kingdom

A few things:
They had a massive security hole (as in even a script kid could pull it off) that they didn't fix for a few months.
They don't even have a cart. In 20 fucking 19, they are an online store with no cart.
Their front page is a total and utter mess to the point it's nearly unnavigable.
They took files off of people's computers and scanned them for their contents without a single mention of it. When caught, they claimed it was only scanning your friends list from Steam (again, not a single mention of this and there was no opt-in/opt-out.) But who knows if they scanned anything else.
They're at least 40% owned by Tencent, a major Chinese company with absolutely zero fucks given about privacy, security and who knows what they're required to do for their government.
EGS is a dumpster fire and the only way they're even relevant is because they have lots of cash thanks to Fortnite and Tencent.
And you'll have lots of shills here claiming the Tencent thing isn't a big deal but what most don't realize is that China's government has passed a literal law that all Chinese companies are required to cooperate with China's intelligence services when requested. Full stop. And there's no battling that in court, either, like US or European companies can.

It really is fucking autistic isn't it? Lets settle this issue once and for all and just have everyone on here pirate their fucking games.

FUCK steam
FUCK epic
FUCK anti-piratefags
FUCK you!

Attached: 1554026068870.jpg (532x369, 55K)

I don't like Epic's policies so I'm not going to give them money. When they stop adding processing fees, locking games on their store and add fucking reviews I may consider.

fuck pirates though
you're literally not a part of this discussion yet you feel the need to give us your shitty opinion
if you could stay away nobody would care, but it's clear that you like being gay

its probably the "muh chinese spyware" meme making half of them piss their pants in fear of their cp stash being found

I would say that they are part of the discussion. As a steamfag, I totally support pirating games that you believe aren't worth the money. Piracy is the natural defense against cancer, like Epic is being.

Attached: gaben piracy.jpg (850x886, 168K)

>implying that good service is going to stop more than 1% of pirates from getting shit for free

Epic Games sucks. I bought Heavy Rain. The Launcher is slow as fuck and the game crashes every 30 minutes or so! Fuck Epic! Never had any problems with Steam

I would actually advocate for piracy over buying from epic, but it's pointless to act like you're smart when you say "nobody should pay for games lmao retards" when the conversation is about how a store with good features is worth buying from. You don't get those from piracy either, and the more that publishers start to notice sales decline the more they will fork over for DRM implementation, making it worse for everybody.
Bad service stops me from using epic, so there is a starting point. Statistically speaking, piracy of media had been declining as Netflix gained traction. It makes sense that Steam could pull off something similar.

>They had a massive security hole (as in even a script kid could pull it off) that they didn't fix for a few months.
Bullshit, it was fixed before anyone knew it was even there.
>They don't even have a cart. In 20 fucking 19, they are an online store with no cart.
True, who cares.
>Their front page is a total and utter mess to the point it's nearly unnavigable.
Well, it's better than steam in that regard for sure
>hey took files off of people's computers and scanned them for their contents without a single mention of it. When caught, they claimed it was only scanning your friends list from Steam (again, not a single mention of this and there was no opt-in/opt-out.) But who knows if they scanned anything else.
Debunked forum.facepunch.com/general/bvnqr/Epic-Games-Store-Is-sh*t-But-It-s-Not-Spyware/1/
Use archives, i can't be bothered to do that for any faggot like you.
>And you'll have lots of shills here claiming the Tencent thing isn't a big deal but what most don't realize is that China's government has passed a literal law that all Chinese companies are required to cooperate with China's intelligence services when requested. It's not a big deal, epic is not owned by tencent and they are not chineese company. But i kinda wonder what do you think chinese gov want's data of neets?

anti customer tactics. thats the main reason. there is no benefit to me as a customer for game to be EGS exclusive. thats why I will never buy a game on it.

>already mods
95% of the epic exclusives are made in fucking unreal, why are you guys this retarded ?

Fortnite and Randybobandylands are on console, and there's a chance people are streaming them from their consoles.

>it was fixed before anyone knew it
>who cares
>it's better than steam
>It's not a big deal
Notice how you can't say he's wrong
It does matter to a lot of people, and no amount of deflection makes this snail pace development acceptable

Based epicchad kepping lying subhumans in check and these faggot spreading lies for fucking free

It's like you're complaining about House of Cards being a Netflix exclusive back when Netflix was good.

That's not at all the same and I really question your sanity
Epic isn't buying the entire IPs, and Unreal doesn't force you to download a launcher
>back when Netflix was good
Ironically ruined by the same style of licensed exclusives

He is, for every point not counting shopping cart that is not even needed, and that's the only true argument there. Are you illiterate or something?

>The people asking Randy for numbers here are just /r/fuckepic reddit tourists

OH NO NO NO NO NO NO

Attached: rfuckepic 2.jpg (1595x934, 116K)

>But i kinda wonder what do you think chinese gov want's data of neets?

Because you never know where you're going to find a backdoor into a company or government system. Someone they can lean on to become an informant, or someone who doesn't read their TOS before clicking accept or is willing to hook their game account to a phone app that has full 24/7 access to their camera and microphone.

Even if the mark is useless themselves, they have a functional computer and internet connection that may not be secure and could be compromised into a cyber warfare platform if the need for one ever arose.

Attached: julius-rosenberg-21168439-1-402.jpg (1200x1200, 95K)

It has been explained a million fucking times. Epic Games pays publishers not to do business with other stores, thus locking games to a platform which has fewer features than almost every competitor. (No cloud saves, no user reviews, no community forums, no streaming, no Linux support, etc. If you use any of Steam's features beyond simply downloading games, then the Steam version of a game is better than the Epic Games version.) If you don't care about the long list of features that Epic Games lacks, that's fine, but stop playing dumb. Disagreeing with an opinion is normal; pretending not to understand an opinion is retarded.

I really don't blame Netflix, I'd rather blame Disney, Universal, Fox and the rest of them for raising their licensing fees sky high.

A security flaw is always a concern
Shopping carts are needed on stores where you want to buy multiple things (so I guess not epic, but it's hilarious that they have to sell the DLCs in bundles to work around the cart system)
The front page gives you no organization methods. It's definitively a massive downgrade from any other seller.
Epic is to a significant proportion owned by tencent. That's just a fact.

how many more threads are you going to post the exact same thing in? I mean seriously, how sad is your life?

>linking to facepunch

good job making your entire post irrelevant, zhao

Steam is not even close to being a monopoly

did you even finish high school?

>Who cares?
>who cares if devs break promises and lie they shouldnt be liable for anything
Any developer who has done should forever be put on the shitlist because they just engaged in ea tier bullshit. Trust is an important thing and developers/publishers who have done the bait and switch ruined any illusion of trust that existed in them and it can't be redeemed
