companies thinking that DRM and Denuvo helps them secure more sales without taking into consideration the bad publicity they get from people online is the issue.
Now there's going to be like 100 videos from reviewers and streamers that boomers and zoomers watch saying how unoptimized and how bad the release is, then they will have to patch the game withing a month or so lowering the DRM and then the game gets pirated.

The Loot and Shoot in the hook, and with each game they have been adding more guns, more sights etc. The system gets more advanced with each title, which makes playing the sequel worth it, especially if just like shooting guns. The cardboard RPG elements you're talking about don't exist, the individual skill trees for each character is very satisfying to move up on.
The writing is supposed to be like that man, that's the point, it's what Borderlands is and has always been.
