Not counting side games that introduced more Fanged Wyverns, Leviathans, and Brute Wyverns.

4 had a huge count of new categories, though, introducing Amphibians, Temnocerans, Snake Wyverns, and the first large monster Neopterons. I doubt they'd be able to add 1-2 new monsters in all those categories even across the G expansion. And if everyone is right in assuming they'd be bringing back Leviathans then that will be even more.

So far paralysis on HH or Hammer is not worth it. Both procs are usually 2-4 hits after each other so one ends up"wasting" the other proc's duration.
So unless you want to intentionally nerf your own damage by not hitting the head I don't see a reason to have paralysis blunt weapons

Lots of poor design decisions like a heavy focus on gimmicks e.g. monster riding, clutch claw or slingshot stuff; borderline insulting asset reuse with monsters and weapons; increasingly outlandish attacks, monster and armor designs. I swap it up between lance and longsword, currently using the Velkhana max upgraded one, working on Namielle, Garuga and Zinogre, but the iiai slash just feels so fucking satisfying when it cuts a tail or kills the monster. Heh. Nothin' personnel.

I'm a new player, and I did all of the ATs without mantles. Enough times to make all of the gamma armor sets besides kirin. Mantles are in no way borderline necessary.

I feel like they got more comftorable with adding in things that could do huge damage and hitboxes. Lunastras nuke is a key example. You dont NEED mantles for it, but I dont feel something like that would have been added without the devs keeping the fireproof, rocksteady, and temporal mantles in mind. The temp in particular since it was added with luna.

That being said, I dont think mantles were an inherently bad idea. I like shit like the ko and gliding mantles that add functionality, not straight buffs. Even rocksteady was good imo since it came with a risk. They just needed some more creativity

Another majir problem with deco farming is that its all or nothing whether you get a particular skill. Sure, 1 skill point may not break a build, but im over 300 hours in and have gotten

Yeah, some mantles are clever, others shouldn't exist.
Temporal mantle is the biggest sinner, impact mantle is borderline broken with bowguns.
Vitality mantle was already enough considering defense.
Ghillie, Glider, Elemental mantles etc are totally fine, though.

Ironically I have all the bow ones. But the rng is my point. No one goes 300 hrs of charm farming and doesnt get a single decent artillery charm. It may not be optimal, but youll have something. Meanwhile plenty of people go hundreds of hrs without seeing a single artillery (or another) deco. Sure I dont NEED them, but its annoying that all my end game time is spent trying to get this last piece I need instead of just hunting whatever I want for fun.

To me it feels like a mishmash of various design paradigms. For example look at the Hunter or Jagras armor sets and then over to the Lunastra gamma armor or Vaal Hazak armor. The first two are so radically different looking from the second two they may as well be from a completely separate game series.

Some weapons like lance and gunlance still give you a somewhat sensible approach and feel like your attacks have real weight to them (just like all the weapons in MH1 or even Tri did) while others like Insect Glaive or Charge Blade or the new moves/mechanics added to most weapons like Long Sword or Switch Axe allow you to do stuff that's so crazy it makes you feel like you're watching FFVII Advent Children.

Compare monsters like Anjanath or Barroth to the likes of Zinogre, Teostra or Glavenus that look and behave like they're some Pokémon rejects.

LR had a wonderful progression and constant attention to quality that made so many newcomers to the series buy this game. Every new monster you see or area you walk into was something to be excited about. Compare that to HR's lazy, diluted, and frankly mobile game tier excuses for content. Tempered monsters? Pink Rathian and Lava Jyuratodus? Gacha weapon rewards? Come on now.

The whole thing just feels like a mess with an incoherent creative direction.

You can hunt whatever you want for fun literally at any time after you've finished the story. That one point in artillery is just going to shave off 1 minute off of that hunt.

basically anything is fine, but i'd be careful with lance and hammer because those are easily staggered by dual blades.
As long as your friend isn't stupid and takes distance, this should be a non issue, though.

DB has a lot of hits per second, so elemental/status (fire, paralysis, blast etc) is generally advisable because you can proc it a lot.

This also means you lose sharpness fast so build for Handicraft (charm, some armours have it) and try to get a "sharp" gem that prevents sharpness loss for a while.

As a rule, you'll want Dash juice on hand so you can do more demon mode combos without fucking your stamina.

I feel you on that still need to get a couple of those myself.

As a melee user, his head is obnoxiously hard to hit due to his size but he's not difficult so I just end up slapping his forearms around without much hassle, which isn't what I want to do. On the contrary he has one of my favorite designs in the entire series so I wish he had a better fight. I want a variant that is half the size but full of crazy new fast attacks.

2 points in the proper elemental resistance will give you a 6% damage reduction (while mantles already negate blights) while 2 points of divine blessing will average out to a 7.5% damage reduction. It's almost a toss up though.

Then make an AT Alatreon or variant that mastered them. If Fatalis can have 3 versions, then so can Alatreon.
Make him do stuff like spill water like Namielle everywhere and then spam kush tornados, then do the icicle drop spam AND then do his thunder air dashes multiple times in one smooth combo.

As a hammer main, Xeno's fight was a boring slog but Shara's was a fantastic mix of genuine challenge and spectacle of a final boss.

Shara is probably half the size and doesn't constantly end up on the other side of the map. You can actually stick to him and he has short-ranged melee options to try to get you out from under him instead of having to constantly trample a mile away. In a lot of ways he seems designed specifically to address all the problems with Xeno.
