So what engine will half life be ported to next

Project Borealis. They are making HL2E3 within the Unreal Engine 4. Right now they are in the early stages still trying to get a lot of the engine mechanics to feel like source in many ways, but also feel good to play. I'd imagine it is hard to balance that. There is also some early level designs and a few weapons and such, like the grave gun.
But like BMS it is a smaller team, so don't expect anything for years. That being said BMS eventually did come out, and I think Project Borealis will too. And we will finally have the closest thing we will ever get to playing Episode 3.

While on the subject of HL2Ep3 and HL3, here are some of my personal notes attempting to reconstruct what happened. This is pieced together from unconfirmed rumors and leaks, so some of it might just have been larps and trolls:

2007: Orange Box ships. Gabe declares a experiment sandbox holiday to reward the company. Work on Ep3 pauses as everyone messes around to come up with new ideas; one of the resulting ideas is F-stop, which Gabe wants to turn into Portal 2
2008: Valve buys out Turtle Rock for L4D. Ep3 team loses people who want to work on L4D and on F-stop Portal 2.
2009: Turtle Rock splits off, causing Valve to rush out L4D2 to cement ownership of the IP. F-stop shelved to make Portal-based Portal 2. Ep3 continues to lose people to L4D2 and Portal 2.
2010: Ep3 continues to lose people Portal 2 and Gabe’s new favorite Dota 2.
2011: Portal 2 ships. Some guys on Ep3 worry that it’s been too long to just release an Episode and split off to try to make a full HL3.
2012: The last guys on Ep3 give up, but work on HL3 now in earnest. Gabe teases “these things, they take time.”
2013: Mass lay-offs at Valve. HL3 fails due to internal disagreement and loss of personnel. Attempt on a new HL3 starts.
2014: Former employee Minh Le sees some of the work and casually mentions it. Valve company retreat teases HL3 in photo.
2015: New attempt at HL3 fails again due to internal disagreements. Disgruntled employee leaks some of the work to VNN and elsewhere.
2016: Laidlaw retires. Valve essentially gives up on HL3.
2017: Laidlaw publishes Epistle Three, admitting defeat. Project Borealis and Boreal Alyph begin.

I'm not American either. My original point back at my first post is that there are conservatives involved in the development of every game you play, at least in Japanese and American productions.
So it's not that politics are in the game, but I was simply pointing out how you consume media produced with employees of conservative values.
