I liked him a lot, myself. Trickster-type main character in a fighting game is super rare over the hardened or hotblooded martial artist. His spritework oozed with personality, even by SNK standards. And he was fun.
But to answer your question, the fact that most people I see share your sentiment is why I was glad to see someone express the opposite.
