The guy in question tells you that he knows an abandoned house that is haunted, and that he is too much of a coward to go in, but that you might be brave/dense enough to enter it and loot it, and tells you to meet him there in a while.
Turns out it was a trap, and once you enter, the asshole locks it behind you while a bunch of goons jump you. It ends with a great few lines.

"I can't believe we found someone stupid enough to fall for this."
Geralt:
"I can't believe you were dumb enough to trap yourself with an annoyed Witcher..."
And it ends with you having sex with a she-elf.

It's just dominant strategy, of course no sane person would act like that IRL. It's like trying to realistically portray how game PC's will bend over backwards to get the best ending possible on some sidequest for an NPC only to turn around and rob them blind, and then murder them for some unique item because they're no longer relevant and there's no real repercussion for doing so.
