>been playing this nonstop the past couple of days Is it, dare I say, the perfect game? The visuals, the controls, the map, down to the UI and the weight of the car, everything about it is perfect and is what you can actually call pure S O U L coming into a strange mix of absolute comfy and intense.
And that's not even talking about the additions the 3DS version makes which defies the law of remakes and doubles it's perfection and soul. Deep (as in the depth) and impactful 3D, new modes, the upgrades, new songs that fit right in with the rest perfectly, and it's the littlest thing but the way the song moves into a different verse instead of repeating around when you're in the final section, and much more. It's only flaw is the ferrari logo being changed
Anyway talk about this masterpiece and discuss why Splash Wave is the best song.
Based OP. OutRun is one of my favorite games of all time even for how simple it is. You just get lost in it.
Dylan Lee
Oh yeah, and how could I forget the speed of this thing. I'll briefly recount the story of how I played this >browsing through MAME seeing what's available with a rom pack I had >oh shit it's that game from last night (the soundtrack had come up on youtube autoplay) might as well check it out >play for a bit in low gear the whole time >smooth and slow ride, just barely make it off the beach before time runs out >"well that was a comfy little ride dunno if it'd be worth it's money back in the day for long though" >playing again, notice the low high gear shift, wonder what that's for >find the button for it >was absolutely fucking blown away by how much faster it got
Somehow the arcade version still feels even faster than the 3DS, maybe it's the bigger screen or something
Is the Sega Ages version 60 fps like the 3D Classics version?
Isaiah Rivera
I prefer the sequel by far, what it lacks in base challenge it more than makes up for with driving depth and better tracks. All these early racers are too simplistic and don't really capture racing since they can't do any technical turns or reward good lines
Benjamin Ross
Can't you pirate the PC version? Or is it just that you want a rerelease?
Nathan Sanchez
2D Arcade racers are fun, but I personally prefer some mix into it. This is an example, which is a mix of racing and shooting.
Yes, its almost the same as the 3DS version feature wise.
Ryan Nguyen
You can, but it's missing some extra content that the original outrun 2 has like the scud race/ daytona 2 stages. I'm hoping they could release a definitive version with extra stuff.
Charles Jones
I wouldn't really say Outrun is really trying to capture racing in the first place though. You don't even race against anyone
Oliver Ortiz
You race against the clock, like a time trial challenge
Asher Carter
Not 2D, but have you played that batman racing game? You drive around Gotham chasing henchmen and blowing up their cars.
Daniel Flores
Help me understand.
Original arcade was 30 FPS right? The dreamcast rerelease and the 3DS are the only ones that are in 60 and there's no difference between them?
I had a VHS I used to record the credits of this game. Was one of the best 'feels' I ever got from a game when I was a child. Shame this was pre-YouTube and the like, so there is ~0 record of the drivers driving off into the sunset to this tune. youtube.com/watch?v=S27Wv0Moq1k
MAME works just fine.
Lucas Collins
youtu.be/tJWjq76qEIQ outrun may be a better game but this game has the best intro theme
Ryan Jenkins
Something about 2D racers doesn't agree with my eyes, but Outrun is the shit, OP. I could legit play Coast 2 Coast forever.
Gabriel Green
Imagine if they added in the Virtua Racing car from the genesis version
Landon Gutierrez
I still have in my mind the days when the game barely ran on MAME (and my computer couldn't handle it either). Still, it deserves a version with the original graphics, stage select, easy 8 players (either split, link, lan or online I don't care) and widescreen.
Oh my bad for not looking it up, I didn't know what to call it.
