My guess is that you grinded longass combos in training mode and when you played online you drop them constantly because you couldn't remember them. When you're starting out you're legit better off learning like 4--5 hit easy combos that end in knock downs and just play around neutral. The only real thing that will teach you neutral is playing a lot, and that also means losing a lot.
