It's got a pretty standard fare plot for the genre (though it does come across as more tongue-in-cheek) but the side cast is by far the best part about it. Personally my favorite character was Kikuhime, she had a lot of fun episodes.
If you've got the tolerance for a 50 episode "monster of the week" kinda show then I think you'll enjoy it.
