I remember back in the ps2 days every corner store you went to had a bootleg copy of a modded ps2 SA that replaced the gangs with national soccer teams, it was harder to find a normal bootleg copy of the game than this modded one.

Because it runs on their old hardware. It's a bummer because a few months ago I suddenly remembered that MTA or SAMP used to be fun but when I looked at the server browsers, there were no Western servers left. All were Brazilian and spoke Portugese or were Russian or Polish or some other language I didn't understand. So I deinstalled GTA SA again.
