I started thinking of this game suddenly today. I never played it, and was wondering if it was any good. I do like James Gunn, but I'm not sure how much he was actually involved in the game.

It's alright. It's a short (but just long enough) hack and slash. It's worth a play if you're in the mood for something nice and ditzy.
Don't look at guides though, because there's this one move that's so effective that there's no point in using any other move. Kinda invalidates the game

I enjoyed it, the music, jokes and general whackiness feels very Gunn from what I know about him. It's a game I bought mainly for the unique style and fap bait but ended up liking it a lot more for the characters which actually get fleshed out pretty well. I felt the same way about Bayonetta and Nier Auto. The thing that really holds the game back is some of the janky gameplay, there's some zombies that just seem to hit you even when you feel like you're doing everything right, dodging and chaining combos. I learned that there was one spin move that was very OP and carried me through some of the tougher sections on time attack where you can't continue if you die, gotta restart the whole level and some of these levels are quite long to do in a single sitting. I have the PC version sitting in my steam library but have yet to play that version. Standout level would probably be the arcade for me. You can blow through the game in a weekend easily but if you want all the unlocks and stuff you'll have to sink in some more time. I'd totally buy a sequel if it was made, game was a great time.

It's pretty average. a fun trip, but average. Combat isn't special, story is Romeo and Juliet but also Evil Dead and also a high school drama. And sometimes its gimmicks could get annoying. Non the less the game has this charm to it.

If you make yourself use combos and specifically hunt for ways to group enemies together and do mass decapitations it is fun. I enjoyed it.
But you can totally play the game without really engaging in the "deeper" mechanics and it will feel average. Overall I had fun and went through it a few times with different skins.

It's a fun game but the combat is very sloppy. Hits have no impact which takes away the fun of using a chainsaw on zombies.
Also fuck all the mini-games, especially that tower climbing one.
