This has been the most underwhelming console gen ever. There are so few high budget single player games, one entire system is basically obsolete, Indies aren't given as much press as they used to, and the industry has become more predatory than ever before. Last gen was so much better.

Nah, Switch is gangbusters.
Thankfully a Monopoly is coming for them :)

Who cares about consoles anyway if you have an IQ over 80.
Just use a PC, and wait for all games to come to you. That's it.

I would mostly agree. Been thinking of getting a DS lately just because it's library has got to be massive by now. Has to be some stuff I would like in there.

The irony here is that almost all the artistically valuable games this gen, the ones that actually make playing games worth it are console exclusives.

The Switch's library is pretty great. The selection of indies is really nice.

Switch's library is still held back by it being a fucking handheld.

this gen is only bad if you dont have a ps4
last gen is when gaming became pozzed thanks to xbox

Why would I play them anywhere else but the PC? Portability doesn't excuse the fact that they're being shackled with horrible DRM.

Good console-only games this gen

Gran Turismo Sport
Bloodborne
Smash Ultimate
God of War

Aaaaand that's about it.

It's not even about exclusivity, it's about multiplats not being good anymore.

What DRM?

There's been some alright games this gen. The start was absolutely dreadful but from 2015 to now it's been ok. And with Japan becoming more comfortable with multiplat development, it will probably become even better.

Console DRM. Every console has it, and it's even more crippling than Denuvo.

>not allowed to mod the game
>not allowed to copy or alter the exe
>can't transfer it to another system
>can't make a backup if the cartridge breaks, or even before the cartridge breaks

I couldn't see myself being shackled like that. It'd be like having steamworks forced into every game against my desires.

All forms of copy protection are DRM, my dude.

this gen has been a huge upgrade from the final years of last gen. we're actually getting tons of games again.

In terms of the whole game industry I think the 8th gen has been better than the 7th gen, but consoles specifically have become pointless.

only one I can think of is Bloodborne. Maybe Nintendoshit too, I don't play those.

This. 7th gen was such a shitshow. Especially the final 2-3 years which was NOTHING

Doesnt matter im still buying a ps5 :)

Hard disagree, 2013 was the best year this entire decade. Nothing has come close since, and don't even get me started on the rest of the 7th gen.

How is fist of the North Star? On of the few ps4 exclusives I haven't gotten around to playing

2012 in particular was the absolute worst. all it had for good games was:
>persona 4 golden
>pokemon black 2/white 2
>devil survivor 2
>kid icarus: uprising
>dillon's rolling western
>gravity rush
>tokyo jungle
that's literally it for an entire year. i genuinely can't understand how people can complain so much about gaming now when it's so much better than a few years ago.
