Ridley and K Rool are principal antagonists to donkey kong and samus. They didn't get in before because yeah, Ridley is fucking awkward to make as a fighter and Rool hadn't really done anything of note in decades, but that doesn't erase who they are. Rool still always had trophies and shit, Ridley was always a major boss in smash.

And Banjo was a star of a wildly successful n64 game (which the n64 is barely represented in smash), is a rare/ms property (and nintendo has a long history with rare and is good business to work with MS),

And for square shit we already have cloud and hero. I'd grit my teeth and understand for sora, but geno as a dedicated fighter is so fucking dumb. The fact that more people want geno than terry or DQ protagonists is fucking terrifying. It's the ultimate example of shit taste and Genofags think they're in good company.

You know I have no idea what exactly Nintendo gained from anyone other than Hero, honestly. Persona only just broke out of its niche and there are plenty of more successful games not yet currently represented in Smash. There also appears to be no port in production after nearly a year since he was announced. Banjo couldn't even get ports for his N64 games, not that $15 digital games would be a good tradeoff. You're telling me that a corporation picked a popular fan request that benefitted absolutely no one out of the goodness of their hearts? SNK is starting to bounce back but fighting games still have a very niche audience outside of a select few successes that still lose a large portion of their playbase within a year. A player base that, by the way, is far less present on Switch to begin with. He's very much a character here for legacy rather than relevant success or Nintendo's current interests.

So this isn't really a knock against any of those characters besides Joker whose game stops being interesting 15 hours in to the 100 hour experience I just think the facts are probably getting fudged in order to take heat off Sakurai.

The lastest update for Geno in Legacy XP is the best modded character. At least, that I have played SMRPG, Geno is full of SMRPG refferences, obviously the moveset, the attacks are all originally of him, and the SFX and the Victory Theme.
Of course, Nintendo won't do something like that (Perhaps...)

Those seem more like the things they'd gravitate towards if they wanted to include popular games to expand their demographic. I don't think they're so out of touch that they'd think a Fortnite character wouldn't gain huge backlash but it seems like there's enough positive discussion around the above listed stuff that they'd think it would be worth it. fatal fury’s storyline has been done since about 1999 with Mark of the Wolves unless I’ve magically forgotten something. KoF takes place in a different timeline where Terry is secondary. It’s why it’s Smash x Fatal Fury and not Smash x KoF. Maybe SNK has plans for future titles in the Geese is Dead timeline but until then we’re living in Kyo and Iori’s world.

We got Banjo Kazooie, a pair that have been asked for almost as long as Ridley and K. Rool. So they know the importance of catering to your long time fans. fatal fury is a retired series for SNK unless they blow me specifically the fuck out. Mark of the Wolves is 20 years old this november. Terry may be fatal fury’s face but that doesn’t really matter much to modern SNK anymore. It’s nice to see them respect their history and always have him in his fatal fury branded cap but that’s about as deep as it goes.

Atlus is a company they've worked with on two exclusive JRPGs in the last couple of years and Joker is their most popular character. Strengthen the relationship, follow the money. SNK is the same shit. They've been pumping out just about all of their best games on the eShop since the damn Switch came out, made SNK Heroines predominantly for Switch (despite it being trashed), are porting SamSho, and are likely bringing KOF over as well. One of the reasons Nintendo puts certain characters in Smash isn't just so they can sell but because they get a boost in recognition.

Cloud was going to be cut, Hero apparently was supposed to be in base roster but got pushed to DLC considering how early he was leaked and Sakurai mostly blew a good chunk of their budget trying to get him so I doubt he wants to deal with SE some more

This all the way. Now that there's a precedent for mii costumes coming with music there probably will be a revamped Geno costume with one or two songs. That way Squeenix can profit from the music sales.

Theres three kinds of characters they put in.
Promotional characters like Corrin or Bayonetta
Iconic fanservice like Cloud or Megaman
Targeted wish fulfillment type shit like Banjo, Ridley etc.
The last has probably become more common in Ultimate because the way internet culture is now probably makes it more profitable. People tend to make a big deal about the first two types of characters like thats the make or break point for a newcomer, when those characters next to completely irrelevant outside of smash talk everyones seen get thrown around before tend to generate the most talk and big reactions.

This is why Sakurai is developing the game and you aren't. He's managed a special blend to each anime swordsman. Shulk and his arts, Cloud and his limit gauge, the Hero and his magic, and Robin with his spells. There's no questioning what he could do with Isaac when given the chance. Even if his spells were scaled down they would probably still be some of the most visually impressive moves of any fighter.

If it were a mechanic that could work, it would be awesome to use Djinn attacks to work towards a summon. You get weaker with more used (like in GS), but can unleash the higher summons if you risk it.

Even without using Djinn mechanics Isaac could have a great mix of mage/sword abilities with a unique ranged grab.

It's more like that bit during the final battle of Gurren Lagann when you see all the dead characters during the big monologue about dreams

Oh, I know that full characters are a lot more work than the costumes. After the art team finishes a full character costumes can be a good use of time. I would've rather that time spent on unique alts for existing characters or prepping more full characters.

The amount of time that goes into coding, testing and refining a character is an entire order of magnitude greater than the time needed to model the character. The art team are also likely specialized in their role, and can't just switch gears to coding. Your proposed repurposing of them is ratfuck nuts.

the reason geno isn't getting in smash is because he's truly irrelevant.
I don't mean K Rool irrelevant, he was and still is the more prominent villain in the Donkey Kong series. I mean literally only appeared as a secondary character in a single mario spinoff game that released almost twenty five years ago, with the single easter egg including him in Superstar Saga being removed in the remake.
Comparing King K Rool's "irrelevancy" to Geno's is the highest of false equivalences and every time someone tries to pull this shit it makes me angry.
