The companions don't really talk outside of quests and a few lines of dialogue between each other. They're pretty generic but their quests are decently executed.

Magic and one handed blades is ridiculously point efficient to build to the point I'm hoarding my skill, attribute and talent points for a rainy day

Maxed out stasis is fucking nuts, enemies stunned for 12 seconds losing 20 armor per second and taking a big fat naked adrenaline hit for 50% extra damage as it runs out. Blade adrenaline attacks are so cheap you can then sleep-adrenaline-sleep-adrenaline combo them to death in just a few hits

Magic healing completely removes the reliance on potions to heal and also cures poison, and it splits off of Stasis to boot.

Crafting is an enormous one point wonder investment. By putting a single point in it you can make armors with bonuses to other social stats like Science and Lockpicking and not have to skill them up fully.

Bitches love cloaks and the single charisma poin they give is often enough to rng dialogue successes. Intuition autosucceeds so I like it better by a lot

never fill them up all the way since companions give bonuses to them at friendly
craftsman is pretty useless since there's a blacksmith who does level 3 at the start of the island

all capes give +1 charisma

you can slot in +1 science, lockpicking or vigor into body armour. Kurt and Aphra give +1 Craftsmanship and +1 Science respectively. Basically all this means is that you never want to put more than 2 points in anything.

Thats the first legendary ive seen but the stats are garbage? Where was it from?

How valuable are the memory crystals? Just beat the tutorial area (I think) and it's really tempting to blow the one I got considering I currently have two tier 1 weapon skills on my toon who I want to focus on casting with swords as fallback. I could get back two points here and now but I don't know if it's worth it.

Literally 9 times out of 10, I vote for K&M However, Greedfall's aiming system is utterly primitive (Target Lock + Firearms is guaranteed hit afaik) and melee combat was clearly designed w/ controller in their mind.

Needless to say, give both an honest shot. Eventually, I think it all boils down if you can live without comfy shortcuts and quicksave or not. I even played shit like AC with K&M, but controller feels better with this one.

No, and you wouldn't want them. The jank is already high enough when you're fighting 6 people. I can't imagine how janky it would get when facing dozens.

You get quite a few, but it takes a bit of time to get to the next one after the tutorial.
I would recommend you to keep your build for a few more levels when you are sure you know what you want and then reskill.

Why are the Natives taking so happily that I am killing literally all of their Guardians.

I was going for a magic only build but mana has been so bad to the point where i need to use a hammer for some of the harder fights. Is it actually worth it putting points into any melee? (i havent been putting points in the top side of the magic skill tree)

So magic is garbage? I mean, the benefit of magic is that it bypasses shields but since you won't have enough energy at least not in the hours I played to rely on it, you still have to break the armour to do any damage with your melee weapon.

There's some swamp bitch that drops 2 legendary items, plus a corpse nearby has a ring for a "nearby" chest which is actually all the fucking way up to the north hidden away in some outpost.

Couple of questions:

1) Is the combat passable? I hear a lot of reviewers saying that "it's not the strong point of the game" which could mean anything. Will I feel satisfied after a combat encounter, or does it feel like slapping cardboard with a wet noodle?

2) Can I spec to use a flintlock pistol even if I go with two-hander?

Is the character sheet on the right fucking busted? It doesn't seems to update HP healing or loot change as it doesn't go up or down when I put on + loot % items.

They revive right after you get out of combat. To revive in the middle of combat, you have to use an item.

Magic is cheese-able to win high level fights you have no business winning. Combat is a bit more powerful but you will never out-melee a high level encounter.

This game reminds me of why I loved Outward. Clearly not a AAA title in a lot of areas but it has a few truly unique ideas that are executed flawlessly and turned up to 11. No videogame design-by-committee corporation would ever make a game with this setting or the whole rembrandt-inspired art design. They also do a good job of making MC serviceable as a player stand-in while still having an actual personality and coming across as intelligent/competent.

Combat is not the point of the game. Parrying enemy blows is satisfying as is using the forbidden spell Power Word:GUN to blow away fuckers who've been annoying you in the story

Cranking up the difficulty and giving yourself incentive to avoid combat makes the game more fun imo, there's no restriction on changing the difficulty but turning it down and killing everything in one hit is unsatisfying compared to other means

The combat is very responsive if anything they could have stood to make you commit to actions harder. The problem with it is there just isn't much depth, crystallization is overpowered and only having three attacks with no combo potential hurts enjoyment longterm

Magic is more of a utility thing. Shield, dash and stasis are broken and your abilities are strong but the energy system fucks you to death and forces you to be a hammer minion for the rest of your team.

Bring Siora with you. Plenty of the natives are just as big assholes as the bridge and Inquisition are. The ones who you do earn the trust of are your bros for life though, and unlike the fucking pieces of shit in New Serene won't CONSTANTLY undermine your goddamn authority and try to stop you doing your job

I dont want to use them, It will make things too easy on scarier enemies. Hammer feels very fun and satisfying to use.

To me these are fun but they're basically just genre settings

IE horror, "gothic" (in the narrow, genre way). I'll grant that Dishonored is a bit more nuanced but "Industrial dystopia" is a setting you could find about 500 paper rpg settings for.

I get the appeal, but they're nowhere near as unique to me as "Colonialism era diplomat but magic exists" with, importantly, the focus being on the former rather than the latter. It's like the difference between comic book settings and magical realism

The setting doesn't really seem unique in any way though, it's all very by the books and generic.

You could replace the natives with elves from the witcher and it's largely the same story/setting, except there's guns. The natives behave exactly how anyone would expect a tribal community to behave, Theleme behaves exactly how a typical religiously dominated culture would and bridge alliance does the typical science at any cost shit.

The only remotely unique faction are the nauts. None of this would bother me if i had a visually or mechanically (in terms of traversal or interesting fighting environments) world to play around in, like Dishonored or Bloodborne. The the world is just 3 Cities which are pretty similar, various native villages which all look the same and typical forest/plains areas, with the occasional cave. There's not a single stand out location in the game I can think of that made me think 'this place is cool/interesting' except perhaps the very starting city, before you set sail.

It very much plays like a lower budget Origins, down to having the same map travel mechanics where you get to interact with your party members in camp and receive their loyalty quests

Nauts were the very first faction i got friendly with. I did Vasco's personal quests as soon as they became available and Kurt's quest chain also links into Naut quests for the Admiral, as well as some Theleme quests.

2h Swords suck so much. I was going swords + guns and traps. Didn't care about rifles or throwing vials so decided I'd try out the 2 handers.
Slow as fuck and tiny range even with the 2 skills that boost those aspects. It could be usable if you spec into stasis as well but it's garbage otherwise.
Is it worth wasting all those points to get Fury or should I just respec out of it?

Blocking and parrying are two different things. A perfectly timed weapon block turns into a parry, which causes you not to stagger, causes the enemy to stagger massively or even be knocked down, does damage, and builds additional fury.

The combat while being a bit repetitive has a nice feel to it, quests are mostly about politics which is nice because the MC is a diplomat first, setting allowing for a swashbuckler/musketeer kind of build is nice and is too rare in games (fuck magic, done to death), environments look completely gorgeous. Play on extreme and two shot people while also being two shotted to death

Firearms do a lot of physical damage. Magic does the least damage but is practically immortal, and warriors arent at a disadvantage for being melee because blocking is broken in this game.
