Not my point. The terrain and world blends together in a realistic way. Without scanning, you'd be hard pressed to discover anything or find anything that draws you in a specific direction. Unlike other open world games that will breadcrumb you with things in the distance.
The world in death Stranding nails scale, but at the detriment of long stretches of nothing with nothing in the scenery standing out to attract you in a given direction. So you just go from point A to B based on what your HUD tells you to do.

I think that's partly the point - the blind HUD direction leads you into unfavorable terrain, which forms the basis for the travel gameplay.

You can kill enemies in this game, but it is ill advised because it causes a "void out" which leaves a big crater where it happened.
