It's "American" and "oh so immersive" English translation.

Pick one, and only one.

Nostalgia and novelty. There was absolutely nothing else even remotely like it back then. If you were an 12-year-old action movie obsessed boy playing as it came out it was mindblowing to see a video game deliver an experience like it at the time. It made huge impressions on us, and that's why it's held in such high regard by boomers.

its all in the humor, the franchise has basically zero serious moments, even the ones who seem serious are covered in a layer of cheese

It was ahead of its time

I still remember the snow footsteps

It's true, MGS feels just like a 7th gen moviegame.

>venom snake having to put down his own men is humorous

1 is very good and you would know this if you actually played the game.

There exist a lot of games better than 1. Thief, for example.

I realize you're b8ing but you're not wrong. But in 1998, we hadn't seen anything like it at the time. The sheer novelty of it made it a phenomenon.

>man endures multiple bouts of torture to save you and everyone else from nuclear holocaust
Pff the age of old heroes is over
>insubordinate putz who shits himself in the middle of missions initially panics but eventually remembers he should be giving you mouth to mouth when you're not breathing
I WANT A WEDDING AND A CAKE AND A HONEYMOON

1 is a terrible game both gameplay wise and story wise.

It's unironically has more soul than any of the other games.

Listen to the codec convos in mgs1 and compare them to the other games. You probably can barely remember much from the later games

Why do people always compare MGS to Thief? They're not anything alike at all. Thief is not an action game.

Take the nostalgia goggles off, retard

It was first game with "deep" story and cinematics. Just like Blade Runnet. Not exactly best movie ever but it was first Cyberpunk movie.

Once again, that's because you got the "American" and "oh so immersive" English translation by Mr. Jeremy Blaustein instead of having Hideo Kojima supervising translation, which is what happened in the later games.

This, what's not to like about being a buff ass manly secret agent when you're 12? I can see why kids nowadays wouldn't like it, it's too old, but anybody that likes action movies can't help but love snake.

>buff
That's just the suit. Solid without it looks like a twig whereas Big Boss is naturally big, swole and thicc as fuck.

Also Solid is a 5'11 and Big Boss is 6'3.
Why do you idiots praise a manlet when there's a man (who is also a giant) right next to you?

Said mangiant is also a twisted fucking psychopath, the worst man on the planet, a cunt, an asshole, a monster.

Did you not play mgs3 or something?

Codec is better.

>I like it but only IRONICALLY

Even the worst asshole to ever exist is better than that artificial dimwitted droid.

Not my favourite franchise or anything but i love how creative they can be. Psycho Mantis being able read your hard drive, MGS2's bait and switch or how meta af it can be.
