Shenmue 1 is fucking amazing. Shenmue 2 could never really make me feel the same emotions. It looks like shenmue 3 is gonna just be 2, not to mention that it is a continuation of 2’s story. I legit don’t like how they handled the story. We also got confirmation that the story has NO END which also pisses me off.
of course it's going to be a continuation of 2's story. What's nott o like about a martial arts revenge epic set in 1980s Asia?

Not him, but it's the fact we've waited all this time only for the story to still not be done. This game won't review or sell well, so a fourth game getting funding is very unlikely. They pissed off people with the sudden Epic exclusivity, so I'm not sure if they'd have as much success crowdfunding again
oh absolutely! They great atmosphere and a level of detail for even minute things, likable characters, a mystery involving murder and ancient artifacts driving the story forward, amazing unique music for every interior setting and exterior both day & night time.

What makes the first one better than two? Shenmue II was way more epic going to China, I loved the immersion in the final section when you walk with Shenhua, no tedious forklifting
i like everything but the human models, it looks pretty bad, and i expect the actual game to look worse anyways so yeah.
I think the setting of Yokosuka is just what works for many people. Besides being 80s Japan, I think its the feeling of living a virtual life in a small town that just happens to have a dark side to it, works as a comfy adventure game.
Shenmue 2 from what I played feels more deliberately designed to take the player out of their comfort zone, you're robbed and have to figure out a way to keep a roof over your head. Hong Kong is far larger and it could be easier to get lost in. You aren't entirely sure whose trustworthy at first.
I think its just little things like that, along with the fact that the ways you earn money really aren't that fun personally. I'm really curious to see how Shenmue 3 handles this aspect.

Never played a Shenmue but I do love the look of an open world countryside kungfu game. "Yakuza but in the countryside" sounds very comfy.

Played 1 back in May, currently in the early parts of 2. Even though it still looks kinda shit I'm getting excited for 3 against my better judgment.
It looks pretty damn good considering it's budget.

I have recently finished the HD collection. Haven't played either game since they were originally released on Dreamcast. After finishing the first, I was still somewhat optimistic about 3. After finishing 2 I no longer can bring myself to care about 3. They shoved too many QTE into that one and a lot of the scenes that play before a QTE can't be skipped if you fail.
