Some mechanics could be done away with, but most people who play regularly know well how to use most, if not all mechanics in the game. There's some like Jump Install that not everybody knows how to use, but people are familiar with most of them.

Arcsystemworks wants their games to appeal to a broader audience by dumbing them down. Hence the removal of skill-based timing mechanics like Slashbacks and FRCs. They've wanted to and have simplified their games for years, they took elements of P4U into Xrd to simplify it, but they showed then that they know how to simplify GG without taking away what people like about the series and I don't doubt they still know how to do that now. Licensed games that aren't even developed by Team Red aren't a good indicator of how they would develop an original series like Guilty Gear, and neither is a tag battle game that had to homogenize a bunch of different games playstyles while also being accessible enough for RWBY fans to not be put off by the fighting game aspect. The new Guilty Gear will be simpler, but games like GBFV and DBFZ are not a good indicator of how simple it will be, and I expect the parts of the game that are dumbed down a bit won't do the game much, if any, harm. If the game is bad it'll likely be because of it being too experimental, what with the "complete reconstruction of the franchise" talk. People who think they're going to make the game as braindead as they possibly can either don't know what they're talking about or are being irrationally pessimistic for no good reason.

It's not unforgivable, you can still have a good game with autocombos (see KoF14). Autocombos just rob new players the satisfaction of actually getting better with execution, encourages mashing so online will be even more scrubbish. In DBZF's case, a lot of autoing actually is optimal which is stupid. Autocombos might lock away some normals, limiting a character's versatility to use any button at any given moment and decrease the combo potential more. Autocombos is just a red flag of a company falling for the tired old meme of making the game "accessible". Fighting games inherently aren't all that accessible, giving new players an accessible mechanic like rewarding mashing also makes that availabe for veterans as well.

So basically all that happens is: They want newbies to not feel as bad when they lose by giving them an easy mechanic, but the veterans also have that same mechanic so they'll STILL get stomped anyway. They will get out-footsied, outmashed no matter what you give to the casuals. All you did was make the game more boring and shallow, while newbies are still getting shitted on, accomplishing nothing.

The tutorial they had in Xrd was influenced by the one in P4U, and the Lessons and Combos in them are structured the same way by extension. I've never seen an actual comment on it, but I would assume that the side Dust in Xrd was taken from the blowback from an All-Out Attack in P4U. They also took Stylish mode from BB to make the game more accessible beyond that, but neither BB or GG ever did anything like make P4U's control scheme the default in BB or GG because they know not to just lift the game wholesale and only take from other games if what they're taking will work in the game they're working on.

Honestly, I'm worried as fuck about GG. If they pander to shitter who wont even play the game after two weeks I'll be crushed.

What if every complexity in GG isn't a positives? Technically having Danger Time adds another complexity to Xrd, it is another mechanic you need to learn about and can exploit to your advantage. I doubt anyone would dislike it leaving though.

SF 5 is awful and only held up by Capcom money. Tekken is held up by Japanese hardcores who have been playing the series for years.

BBTAG died extremely quick because it was doomed from the start (reused assets, DLC debacle, overshadowed by DBFZ as tag fighter). DBFZ lost numbers becauae casuals thought it was a """""fighting game""""" like Budokai. The only people that stuck are people who actually studied the game. Intermediates quit because of how oppressive the rushdown and pressure game is, and how the meta was a stale one for 6 months since Bardock'a release. It was never really about button input simplification than the mechanics and core gameplay

Switch version of BBTAG is a weird anomaly. It has a great netcode, but for a platform where the core anime playerbase isnt found in, it managed to keep 100 or so players.

For the most part I've found this to be a lie. I'm a total newfag who just fucks around with Sol and there's rarely someone who comes in and completely stomps me. The amount of defensive options and generally low combo damage helps

I'd play it longer if it either had more single player content or had good netcode. There are no locals around so my only choice after I beat story/arcade mode is to deal with the shitty online.

I play GG, and it's too complex. Some things to change:

>simplify special inputs
>add hold to tech

Guilty Gear has been my main game since I started playing #Reload and there are things that don't actually give much, such as variable wake up times. Other things are just outdated methodologies, like mashing mechanics such as mash to tech, stagger, and dizzy.
The actual beauty and complexity of the game comes from the character mechanics and the universal user mechanics, not this random trash. I'm okay with it being in, but if you want to remove something those should be the first and only.

It's about enjoyment rather than following the crowd. If what you care is playercounts just don't play fighting games at all.

That's just turboautists that claim to be oh so hardcore. Autocombos are not necessarily bad, though it depends on implementation. The idea is not inherently bad at all, though having the combos come out on whiff, for example, I consider a really bad idea.

1. Take Elphelt. Sometimes your preferred anti air normal is close S, such as Elphelt. If the enemy is rapidly moving into your position via air dashing, you have a very short window to press your S button to get the close S, both LATE enough to get the close rather than far version, and EARLY enough to not get stuffed by the incoming air normal from the opponent. This is resolved entirely via command inputs.

2. Take Ky. When you antiair 6P someone, your regular combo followup is 6P close S, then whatever else. However, you're not always guaranteed to get that close S depending on the situation. This makes his antiair followups way more unstable than some other characters. This isn't something that's meant to be built into his character.
For example, I-No having relatively mediocre anti-air normals is fine, because she has her oppressive Morrigan dash mixups. They would hype it up a lot if it revealed new characters too though, which is what I expect to see. There'll be snippets of gameplay in the trailer I'm sure, but gameplay trailers can't give you as clear a view on how the game plays as just a plain demo with no editing or any of that.
