My honest opinion on CT is that its a rare game that has incredible levels of soul, but virtually no substance. Its quality rides entirely on its polish, aesthetics and the impression it gives of going on a grand adventure across time, but the game otherwise is incredibly basic in gameplay and plot and gives you no where near as much actual freedom as it tries to imply is possible.

I don't see where you get the soul from while also calling the gameplay/plot essentially uninspired. That sounds damn soulless to me. Personally I dislike the art style and hate the gameplay. And as a jrpg fan, it takes something special to turn me off from playing through one. Such as damn near every encounter against even the most basic of enemies involving some kind of timing or weakness gimmick. Yes, sometimes I do just want to turn my brain off, mash attack to win, and see numbers go up.
