Wouldn't even be a contest, but my PC is trash and can barely ran the original version without massive slowdowns.

Insofar as Melty Blood is the quintessential French Bread fighter you should definitely play it and it is God's gift to man.
Will it make you better at UNIST?
Not any more than any other fighting game.
Will it make you better at rebeating in UNIST?
Probably. Considering UNIST is like a polar opposite of Melty, this is one of the few things I can say with confidence is a similarity.
Also, you do know how you get better at comboing in the air, right?
They're not just gonna go away going from Melty to UNI you know.
Would you like to know my preferred method of aerial practice?
Look into practicing Sidewinder loops with Sol in Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R.
I can think of no better way to teach juggling people in the air in just the right way so the right thing lines up perfectly.

I'd like to actually get good at Melty, but i already have enough trouble finding a main in games where i can pick a character and try them out and that's it, having to know which of the three moons is best is just an extra layer of indecision i'm not getting through.

I use an HRAP4 but standard ps4 pad wasn't too bad either honestly. If you have bigger hands try a Hori FC4 pad. Stick is comfy but the entry price can be a little offputting, FC4 is a decent middleground.

as someone who recently switched from analog to dpad, it's not as bad as you think once you put some time into it. I still haven't quite figured out 360's or 720's on it as of yet.

I don't want to have to proceed with the crystal treatment just to get consistent inputs.

you're going to have a harder time doing inputs consistently on an analog stick

Dpad is more precise, strictly speaking. Less chance of accidental inputs which will happen a lot on analog usually. Try getting a Qanba Drone on sale or something. They're iffy sticks but for $50 they're good entry level stuff. Upgrading them to quality parts is only like $30-40 afterward as well.

I think 5 frames is my limit at delaying Hydo's rekkas.

I think Mika's easy to play gimmicky with, but hard to play properly.

Gimmicky play is like tons of j.[C]/66B/66C (especially 66C since dropkick sucks outside of netplay)/fullscreen 214C/aerial rocket shenanigan spam. I'm doing some of this stuff myself starting out since 66B/j,[C] are addictive, but it's not a good habit.

Proper play is using her scary close-range pressure to enforce the fundamental frametrap/tick throw game with higher risk to the opponent since she can blow up shields and OS attempts very easily with 214X. For using specials to approach, 623X > CS or EX rockets is usually the best way to get in if done in moderation.

Not him but you're not wrong in that spamming dash attacks and j.[C] can leave you vulnerable to people who're prepared to deal with that.

Sometimes it's nice to mix those in however once you feel like you've conditioned your opponent to not be on the lookout for that.

I do agree with getting 623 stuff thrown into the gameplan however and clearly FF has its uses if Basto can make it work in combo as efficiently as he does outside of just ending the j.AA for the ender setup.

66C gets me literally every time and I hate it because I know you guys know I'll just downback, but then I think maybe this time it won't happen and I'll get caught with 66B or a grab because you'll be expecting me to block the 66C this time, so I just keep crouching and it's another overhead.
I hate how my brain reacts to mixups.

I don't even think you can call that mix. It's the same situation as Akatsuki's gay chop. They're reachable overheads with obvious animations that can be pushed into the near unreachable territory with online delay since they come from characters that have other annoying stuff that you're looking out for and can advance forward suddenly.

Well, they do work really well against a lot of things in a vacuum and against the unprepared, especially in a netplay environment, which is why people use them in the first place. Of course you should throw those out occasionally to test if that person's prepared, but making that stuff the core of your approach will quickly hit a ceiling.

Well I got hit by all the assaults today so it's about getting used to those overhead situations. 66C is slow enough to not be a real mixup even in moderate delay, and if you shield it they drop down in front of you like a rock and they're fucked.

If they're too slow to count as real mixups, then just pretend I said overheads in general because I just can't seem to beat this hurdle.
