it's not about being right or arguing. that's how the site has always been. the issue is that in every thread, it takes about 5 posts for some /pol/tard to come in and go "MUH JOOZ" and the rest of the thread is ruined instantly.

Vidya is relatively inexpensive compared to a lot of hobbies and some of the most popular threads over the years has been dedicated to f2p shit.
The thing is I'm not interested in discussing vidya with the vast majority of you nowadays, the quality of actual on-topic discussion is not all that different from places like gamefaqs or reddit if you take away the moderation and deliberate shitposting and the fact people ITT are unironically recommending those sites just goes to show how far this board has fallen.

What is odd is new janitors have been hired recently on /vr/, and you are right. Its not saying much considering there is nothing going on. But either way would recommend boards that actually hate the spam and have mods and Janitors that care. They exist, you just have to travel around. But I'm relatively new to Yea Forums (about 3 years) and I suspect I'm one of the few who actually come here for discussion and not for a way to vent off frustration. The moment I realized Yea Forums was absolutely hopeless was in a CP2077 threads where I argued with 2 or 3 anons and I pointed out and proposed alternatives for several designs which I considered bad only for them to completely ignore them,never even once addressing them, strawmanning the fuck out of me, calling me a tranny in the end and then, in a thread with 300 posts already, posting the question "why do people shit on CP2077? This place is and always will be just a shitposting social media site for entertainment and passing the time. Always has been, always will. Objectively, there IS no discussion, no information, no socialization, and no personal growth, at least, that you couldn't get much more easily anywhere else. Times do change and such, so has the demographics and website design and memes, but though those things change the purpose of Yea Forums is exactly the same as it has always been.

Because of this, it's incredibly easy to spot newfags, because they haven't been on the site long enough to know this and as soon as THEY change, they assume Yea Forums has and immediately spout the "does anyone else think Yea Forums is getting worse?" spiel (there's a thread every day ffs get some self awareness). Truth is, they changed themselves but are too new to realize it and so they are newfags. Most people leave after that, like moot, and finally grow up.

So if you do find yourself getting frustrated with Yea Forums, that means you're taking it seriously, and if you're taking Yea Forums seriously, this place isn't for you and you need to leave and move on.

Yea Forums really only does two things: 1. serves as a substitute for many things for normalfags that are too loser to be norms (most of Yea Forums now) 2. Is a place to have some fun on the internet for people mature enough to not take it seriously (real anons, aka "oldfags", now a minority of the site)

I'm not going to deny the quality of discussion hasn't taken a nose dive but "don't like it just don't buy it" has always been a massive cop out to stifle dissenting opinion towards a game, and the idea that people simply moved to other boards to air their grievances with a game is just plain bullshit.

This applies to all boards, especially Yea Forums and Yea Forums, but I think it's just a matter of tastes and cultures changing.
My problem with most boards nowadays is not with the kind of discussion, rather the complete lack of discussion. There is 0 discussion on things that interest me, things that use to interest most people on this board.
Out of the hundred or so threads and topics on the catalogue, there's maybe usually 0-1 threads I'm actually interested about enough to participate in. I don't care about meta console discussion (e.g. Sony and Nintendo stocks), console exclusives discussion, e-celebs, gaming journalism politics and news, porn threads etc. I mainly want to discuss games, and even then I only really want to discuss story/lore oriented games which people call walking sims. I hate generic 2D roguelites or metroidvanias, or bullet hells.
I've been here since 2003 and I remember when I first got here, it was a bit like now where I had nothing to talk about (Yea Forums had many Perfect Strangers threads which I had never seen), but then there was a period of time around 2005-2007 when my tastes momentarily aligned with 'mainstream Yea Forums's' and we had a lot of good discussion on Blizzard games and lore, VtMB, creepypasta threads on Yea Forums, etc. I think Yea Forums was still good from 2010 to 2013, 2010 being when Amnesia came out which was the beginning of mainstream e-celebdom since it launched Pewd's career and 2013 being when the Gone Home was released, arguably the first mainstream walking sim. Again I don't care about e-celebs but Amnesia was a great game we got a lot of good discussion out of. I actually liked Gone Home and miss the days when we could discuss it seriously.

I think the gaming crowd, culture and tastes have just changed. The games people play here are just too different to my tastes, and most people probably don't even play games any more, they just come here to meme.

I do not care if it's right or left. Just kick them off the threads.
