In the beginning Xehanort was an islander who dreamed of freedom and exploration
But his innocence was ruined by his future self who gave him a role he barely would want for himself
When he returned to present to live his life, he may have forgotten but his heart remembers and guided him into the man he’s destined to be
Soon the Keyblade Chosen him officially and he ventured to the outside world fulfilling his original dream of exploration and understanding
But as he studied the past, his Heart guided him into knowing what he knew as a time traveler
By BBS, he was depicted as an old man willing to cause an apocalypse out of curiosity to know the cause of the Keyblade War and the Secret to Kingdom Hearts
By KH1 and 2 through Terranort, Ansem, and Xemnas he was depicted as a man who’s willing to bring the worlds back to darkness or become a God and rewrite the Universe in his own image or simply a scientist willing to do whatever it takes to know the secrets of the Heart
But all those are facades as if Xehanort wanted to be painted as a villain to be fought against
In reality he took his role as a Keyblade Wielder seriously and know the values of Light and Dark, Connections, Relationships and love
He knows a Keyblade Wielder’s role is to safeguard the light and being balance between light and dark
But he saw as long as there’s life, people whose hearts either shine too brightly or hearts that beget darkness and evil they’ll always be chaos and ruin
There’ll never be peace
Perhaps from his own experiences saw the ruin of the world and despaired
He believed a true Wielder is someone who served the light while being willing to be the shadow of the world
He was willing to become the villain to save the world itself by purging life and bring light back to the world
He was trying to protect the world itself
But in the end he was willing to accept he was beaten and entrust the next generation through Sora to find the answer he himself gave up so much searching
