I think it's the reason that people are isolated and Sam's backstory that theyre trying not to foreshadow. Remember, people found out the twist in MGSV MONTHS BEFORE it came out just from trailers. They don't want the same mistake.
My theory is that the chiral network is a realization of transhumanism. People can finally fully connect with eachother mentally through the internet, sharing true thought and feeling, but the catch is that it connects you to the afterlife as a medium.TLDR: You can shell into somebody's brain through hell as a backdoor virus. What happens when the ladder isn't big enough? Example a ledge too high or crevice too wide? Do you get a no-go message or does the ladder drop letting the player jump that extra reach to the ledge or lose the ladder as it drops down the crevice?

Another interesting video (unsure if they released it yet?) Is they explain the Babies on the characters. They're all born from some "Still Mother" that may be dead? Regardless the babies that the mother bares are connected via the Chiron network to her, and she is connected to the afterlife/world of the dead/other side and the baby is used to power the machine on the characters should that detects the Ghosts/BTs.
So it's Other Side > Still Mother > Chiron (quantum internet) > Baby > Machine in order to detect the Ghosts who have crossed sides
