Open world games need to die so nonlinear games with smart level design can come back, fast travel is unnecessary in them.

It works if it can't be done from anywhere. You have to go to a node, then it lets you jump between nodes. Letting you teleport from anywhere just turns the game into a series of menus and removes you from the world.

It depends on why you need fast travel. If it's because your world would be a pain to manually walk around all the time, then ok. But you need actual reason to explore. If it's just because you want to be lazy and not make interesting locations, then fuck right off.
