The new GP tracks are pretty much reworked CTTR tracks.
Twilight Tour has similar layouts of ramps, turns, and backgrounds as Crash Test Mummies but with a wider track.
Prehistoric Playground took the aesthetic from Labrea Car Pits and the hazards from Fossil Fueled Injection.
Spyro Circuit is a tighter and smaller version Once Upon a Tire, still sharing the same mini-shortcuts and interior transitions.

Even if that's true I still don't believe it's Mario related - if that is a real leak that is. Rumor has it that Mario was meant to be in Sonic racing transformed, but was cut for similar reasoning. Supposedly in that situation SEGA were the ones who were afraid of confusing people. SEGA has made some absolutely terrible decisions(They said no to Sonic being in Melee and rejected his inclusion in Brawl until the last second), so I believe it. With all the crossovers Nintendo has been doing maybe it isn't impossible.
