Spyro 2 is the best mix though. Adds depth without being distracting. 3's only addition to Spyro mechanics being the skateboard shows how much Insomniac was straining for ideas by then.

3 is overrun with shit minigames and mandatory side-character sections that ALL SUCK compared to regular gameplay.

2 also has shit minigames, but at least you still play as a fun to control character for all of them.

1 is the best because the entire game (sans the flight levels) is about exploring and platforming. There's no added fluff, it's a straight-shot experience with no annoying low-points like the other games.

It doesn't get boring because the level designers keep adding new mechanics that make you use your already available moves in different ways. 2 and 3 will wear out the average player way faster because it becomes tiresome to have to learn a shallow gimmick for a minigame every five minuets.
