Stop making games where the only means of action is running from an enemy. Outlast is such boring trash just because of this.

I prefer the Alien Isolation approach: give a means to defend yourself, but only to buy time, you can't kill the enemy entirely. And more emphasis on stealth.

nothing to fix, the genre is flawed as a genre.

w-when is it gonna move

Jesus fuck that sent lightning down my fucking spine
Not even worth opening

Remove jumpscares

Can someone click this and tell me what it is? Is it a dog or something?

this
you think lovecraft got the title of "greatest horror author" and "the father of horror" because he abused basic human amygdala reactions. no. horror is about constant suspense and panic, not about buildup and release.

All the good horror games are legitimate games that add in horror elements. FEAR, Silent Hill, even PT all gave the player something to do and could be played normally. The fear came from the environment, from the ambience and feeling the player had.
Playing Gmod maps alone is creepy as fuck for example, it always feels like there's something god awful watching you from some small imperceptible dark corner of the map.

> it always feels like there's something god awful watching you from some small imperceptible dark corner of the map.
I always get this feeling in singleplayer games desu

>those eyes
nope

past 0:05 it's just stupid

cringe normie doesnt understand kek walter memes back to r/eddit

I agree with you, well put. I kinda think instead of horror being its own discrete genre, it should be better regarded by developers as just a theme or something. That way, you can't just make a walking sim with nothing in it but because it has dark lighting it gets to be a horror game, and suffocate the space for actual horror games.

It's a doll

Did someone screencap that one driving horror game idea?

I don't know, but I know this weekly or so thread sure as shit isn't fixing a god damn thing.

We just need a AAA dev to tackle the genre. Indie games are always lacking in voice performances, etc. which greatly hurt the atmosphere of the games. Look at what Kojima was able to accomplish with PT.

If that's the case it could simply be fixed by indie devs actually paying for a decent voice actor instead of just using their friend who has a good voice or whatever cheapest option they can afford.

i think he got it because those fuckin plebs back then had no balls and got scared by books lmao

Bring back fixed camera angels.

>he requires mixed media to feel emotions
look at this poorly-formed proto-man let us laugh at his lack of development hon hon hon

this
they always had that "closed in" feeling at certain points as well and it was executed so fucking good

There is already a driving horror game.

this. never played alien isolation, though, might have to give that a shot

Why haven't you played the best horror game of the year?

force frictional games to make new releases
amnesia/soma was top tier, only alien isolation and darkwood could share it's place

Nah he got there by his implications.
implications are fucking terrifying, the mind can come up with some scary shit.

WHAT THE FUCK IS IT GONNA MOVEI AM SHAKING IN MY SEAT

Ehm

Books can never be scary because they don't have jump scares.

Guy died after taking this pic btw.

FEAR i never found scary, is this a common sentiment, gameplay rocked and the aesthetic was cool, but never freaked me out.

Do you have flash enabled?

FEAR is passive horror, like it has elements of horror which define its setting but the actual presentation and execution are not meant to be particularly scary to the player. You're playing a super soldier, after all.

Yeah that kind of ruins it

why would i have flash?

to watch animated images in your browser.

Remove jumpscares and instead make it more atmospheric.

One horror narrative I've always kinda liked it the MC fighting monsters and all, but trying not to become a monster themselves from the desensitization to violence and trauma and coming to enjoy it. Are there any games (besides Spec Ops: the Line) that do this well?

>Remove jumpscares and instead make it more atmospheric.

this but replace them with slow burn and nothing happening. Then you'll have a really good walking simulator

The kind of horror you want does not and will never appeal to enough people for it to be profitable. It's pretty much relegated to indies at this point, but that's also a difficult proposition because good horror tends to rely on realistic or at least very well crafted visuals that most indies can't afford to pull off. It's why you end up with cartoony shit most of the time.

cute

Nothing happens, it's a meme image.

>Observation
I play that game whenever I watch movies.

Sell that "game" to me, supposing that it is one of course.

>'it's just a nigger, it's just a nigger, it's just a nigger...'
