Kamen rider isn't anime and every character on that poster is animated.

Nobody in Japan gives more than half a fuck about Akira anymore, all it was was an above-average manga for the time with a gutted movie adaptation. The only reason why it got big in the west was because it got a big push in the early 90s by distributors and because of its animation. Akira is nowhere as big as One Piece or Shin Chan or even Yokai Watch in its country of origin.

Why would it be Kamen Rider rather than Zyuranger or even a more recent Super Sentai team? The point is to have characters well known both inside and outside of Japan, and Power Rangers designs are way more well known than KR. Gundam not being there is stupid though and YW made sense when the choice was made because the games were outselling even Pokémon in Japan but at this point including YW is laughable because it's plummeted in popularity in Japan and it never really took off in the West.

100% false. Osaka elected them as ambassadors and reps for the Osaka region, not Japan. Osaka did this because every single mascot in each prefecture keeps one-upping them, especially Kumamon. Osaka had to literally pay TPC and Sanrio for Pika and Kitty to both represent Osaka since they're fucking desperate that no one comes to Osaka for tourism. I'm not quite sure how that's working in their favor now since each region usually publishes an annual report on how much money they've gotten into the area. This was back in 2016 and since then TPC did open a center with Sanrio opening a store iirc. That's besides the obligatory commercials that show both mascots with the Osaka namesake
