Melee, I love soul-calibur 2 but the sequels aren't that different. I like the smash sequels but Melee is unique and is super nostalgic for me. My whole family and friend group and our humor is shaped around that fucking game.

Melee. It still has core mechanics that haven't really been surpassed. SC2 on the other hand has been completely replaced by SC6.

FPBP, SC2's adventure mode is just that much better than whatever Melee can offer.

Nah, combat feels less fluid and I don't remember there being any cool modes in 4/5.

its because of soulcalibur 2 that i got into melee in the first place as a kid.
i was 6 and my dad assumed SC2 was too mature for me and he knew i only played link in SC2 since i recognized him so he got me melee.
my dad isnt too into smash since he thinks its not really a fighting game (even though hes a huge nintendo fan) but ive only taken smash seriously over the years, i dont take fighting games that seriously surprisingly (because i know its a grueling endeavor to git gud in it, plus not all communities are active, like skullgirls)
