What do you think the Paper Mario series would be like right now if Nintendo had stuck with the old gameplay style?
What do you think the Paper Mario series would be like right now if Nintendo had stuck with the old gameplay style?
Hopefully just the same thing but with new settings and characters
That's literally what everyone wants
Nintendo has been listening to fans lately. I'm hoping for a return to style for the next Paper Mario.
Right after they remake 1& TTYD for switch
I will only have hope if some other studio handles it that isn't IS.
They only care about FE now.
it would be good. i have no idea why they decided to cut party members for toads everywhere and pixies
the same kind of slow degradation that has plagued the Mario & Luigi series
people would still be saying TTYD is the best with a few slurping the N64 game and only contrarians choosing any newer entry
It's probably a bad hill to die on but I really, really liked Colour Splash for what it was.
that artist does some nice gay porn
I would be more interested to see how other games would develop in a world where paper mario stayed true to its roots, would we have other franchises and companies trying to have RPG subseries?
I think both SS and CS were decent, they just aren't on the same level as the older games.
>Right after they remake 1& TTYD for switch
Cringe.
I actually hated Sticker Star and didn't expect much going into Colour Splash until a few levels in I realized that it's actually pretty fucking neat. It still has a lot of issues when it comes to character design, combat and story but the levels were really creative and it had some really sharp writing and great visuals. If they stopped copypasting Toads, had decent combat again and went back to not relying on characters pointing out that things are made of paper for humor I'd be fine if future Paper Mario games were like it. Seriously, so much of the writing was incredibly charming.
Wish they sticked with the sticker combat instead of cards because cards are slow as fuck
There was nothing wrong with plain old turn based combat and making it based on items was a bad idea in the first place.
Never said it wouldn't be cringe user but it's gonna happen. Be constructive here
Fuck man, I am so desperate for a new good paper mario that I would take the soulless graphics of Color splash
At least there is that bug game coming out, they just confirmed it will come out in november.
super paper mario was a good game, still was a letdown they started to change to gamepley just because. havenĀ“t played color splash but sticker star was just awful.
post your sequel ideas
SS/CS style Paper Mario with Labo as the gimmick.
I just want a Mario RPG on Switch.
At this point, I don't care who makes it.
It existing
two words
BUG
FABLES
NINTENDO
How would that even work?
Why they havent put a super paper mario game on switch yet ill never understand.
old good new bad
old good new bad
old good new bad
too busy with fire emblem
I came up with one about 10 years ago where the Macguffins are all different kinds of mystical hats, and each would be worn by the respective chapter boss. Also I think one of the partners was a piranha plant.
But would you rather have it in classic style or something new like they tried since super?
I'm one of the few people who think this isn't universally true around here.
But in the case of Paper Mario it couldn't be more accurate
reminder Tanabe is in his redemption arc with Prime 4 being back in Retro's hands and Luigi's Mansion 3
he'a gonna bring back old PM lads
>meanwhile Kawade is still doing not canon FE Cipher garbage
Tanabe is only good if he's with the right and experienced dev team
see: Dillion and Retro's DKC games
> in november
Oh wow, I wasn't expecting it. Good to know it has a switch release too. I hope it is not 30$
I don't want to think about it, or I would start considering suicide
only the pc version is confirmed for november right now, though.
that battle stage looks too busy
>playable cast is Mario and just ~3 partners, all of whom join within the first 2 or 3 chapters
>badges are now character-specific rather than being either "Mario-specific" or "applies to any partner"
>each character levels up separately and has a separate pool of BP
>battles still have a 2-character party
>after a certain story event, Mario is temporarily removed from the party and even once you get him back is no longer required in the in-battle party (imagine something in the vein of Chrono Trigger where Crono sacrifices himself until he's brought back)
has ugly graphics and especially poor animations and is all-around soulless. I could throw together a better looking prototype in a week.
You're right that is a little bit busy visually but at least it has soul and doesn't look like shit.
Series is dead until Miyamoto is.
no mario rpg has ever dropped mario as the protagonist, that is like the one rule you don't break
though I'd like fewer partners as long as they get full development through the story
those are from some fangame that never got past alpha like many others, and the only animated and actually finished battle mockups/system from fan stuff I have
>no mario rpg has ever dropped mario as the protagonist, that is like the one rule you don't break
He'd still be the protagonist of the story at large, there would just be a brief section where he's somehow incapacitated, not unlike TTYD Chapter 4 where you briefly lose access to all of your partners so far.
I meant the main playable character
the only exception were the solo sections of mario and luigi or when (briefly) controlling bowser
.........
it still hurts
>Four swappable lead characters - Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser.
>Several shared partners, including a guest appearance from Marilyn of the Shadow Sirens as a hidden partner akin to Ms. Mowz.
>each partner has a "field" skill, like riding a Yoshi or giving information, and a "context" skill taking the form of a minigame/puzzle involving affecting something - fixing machines, commanding toy soldiers, seances etc...
>some "support" partners, who handle some extra gimmicks to turn the battle in your favor, like Kersti or Huey.
>A return to badge systems, with action commands and nonconsumable attacks.
>involves a literal who (but still unique) thief stealing a legendary weapon/War machine(papercraft scissors) to expedit his thievery and becoming a one-man crime wave.
>surprise surprise, the scissors are alive, sentient, and intend on destroying the world as per an ancient prophecy told of by the game's Goomba partner - a priestess who was split into four - one for each lead.
>during the final boss, the supports heap piles of super modes on the party, (Huey dousing Bowser in black paint, netting him a hitman-style tuxedo and Black Bowser style moves, for example.)
>the leads join in one by one, after each real chapter. Each character also gets a set of side chapters detailing how they make it to Mario between chapters. Prologue teaching how MArio controls, the post-prologue Luigi side teaching how Luigi controls, the post-chapter 1 Peach chapter teaching how Peach controls, etc.
>A southern belle Mario Brothers fangirl Piranha Plant gearhead partner is involved.
I thought up this whole big idea once, and it's still on the back of my mind in case I ever make a fangame to that order.
Where is the chain chomp partner, Yea Forums?
You promised me a chain chomp partner.
What makes those examples allowed while what I've suggested isn't?
More importantly, what about this rule that you've noted suggests it wouldn't be broken in the future? Do you have any reason to believe it isn't simply a coincidence?
In general, do you really think the developers of every Mario RPG are operating under some sort of explicit directive to always have Mario as the lead character, regardless of any reasons not to, excluding the specific circumstances of the exceptions you yourself have noted? To claim as much is in my view a completely unreasonable claim.
>You promised me a chain chomp partner.
What? No we didn't, IS did. Complain to them, not us.
Oh I misread it and I thought Mario would be optional for the rest of the game
Carry on then
>UI with personality
Not gonna happen in current year
That image is actually from a fangame someone here tried to make once
As usual it went nowhere
There's nothing we can do but wait until Shiggy retires.
chompsworth was honestly the best character. the author really nailed the dry British humor
Oh, I thought you were talking about the image you replied to, not the image you posted. My bad.
Unfortunate that none of the fan projects have ever come to fruition. Except Bug Fables if that counts.
That's just the TTYD UI
still second rate gameplay wise to Mario & Luigi
>Dayzee
>Pixl
>Whatever the fuck that ghost maid thing is supposed to be
>is that supposed to be a bob-omb or is that an overdesigned OC
Thanks I hate it
yeah that's a problem with most OCs, people overdesign them because they want to be "unique" when they could just give one hat and be done
but I guess since those never make fangames, people can't express their personality via dialogue
though I heavily disagree of using SPM's species since they are from another dimension and should never be in a normal paper mario game
I hope nintendo never remakes TTYD. They should just port it to switch with pm64, and use their resources to make a new game similar to ttyd instead of the newer games.
Agreed, remaking TTYD could risk changing it to a stale battle system
though I wish they'd at least added pipes to reduce backtracking
stale
The series is dead. No good games for over a decade.
>TTYD Remake
Fuck off Arlo
tired, overdone and with people complaining that its stale like nsmb
>ttyd was 15 years ago
I was so young and full of promise. My life went in the same trajectory the series did.
These fan designs always go over the top in regards to character design, putting as much clothes on them as if they were christmas trees.
Goombario only needed a hat, Kooper a scarf, Bow a bow and so on. Get this Sonic fandom tier autism away from wholesome Paper Mario.
Why do people insist on the characters having white outlines? They look like fucking garbage. Also
>muh cardboard
see
it's mostly because of lack of text to express themselves that people feel the need to do it
I can see them remaking it but making all the NPC generic Toads and Shyguys
You mean like with the Kekistan Saga remake? Did the same thing happen to BiS?
Exactly what happened with BiS
it's present in 3DS and Wii U Paper Mario too
Never happening, not with bitter Miyamoto still alive
God Paper Mario OC is one step from Sonic tier autism
>it's mostly because of lack of text to express themselves that people feel the need to do it
The fan OCs go too far that they break design philosophies Nintendo has of "form from function".
You have bob-ombs that have their wick hidden because of the clothes. Koopas whose shells don't stand out. The elements that tell the player what the characters are and can do are pushed out of sight in favour of arbitrary fluff. Even Bug Fables does it with a Bee who throws a boomerang instead of attacking with their stinger.
Because dude they're paper LMAO. How else could you tell they're paper!?!?!?
yeah i sure would like a one use party member. retard
You would if you've read the character's awful dialogue in the demo.
a bee would die if they used a stinger though
>though I wish they'd at least added pipes to reduce backtracking
Wasn't there a pipe for every single town in the game?
I mean a pipe between the stepple and the town in chapter 4 for example, or from the cave entrance back to the camp in chapter 5
yeah, but by people I mean fans with their mockups, not nintendo devs
they said there was a big reason as to why they added the outline but they never explained why, and it really upsets me
I want a new PM with unused bestgirl as a partner
I'm guessing so it's easier to tell characters apart from the background. Pretty shitty reason to ruin the artstyle, IMO.
They could just do a paper mario odyssey now since that seems to be ok with miyamoto
>Bought a 3DS for this and Bomberman 3DS
>alchoholic boolloon tied around some totem thing
What the shit are these designs
I am all for that Mimi knockoff though, especially if she's an eldritch monstrosity like her sister
while Stick of Truth was watered down Paper Mario, Fractured But Whole's battle system blows away all Mario RPGs from SNES to latest iteration. It's so good.
>some totem thing
It's one of the Superstar Saga smiley face things, but no fucking clue why it's there. Agreed on the Mimi qt.
Now that sans undertale is in smash, when will he show up in paper mario?
He cameo'd in Superstar Saga, so I'd say it's inevitable
64 > TTYD
Based
How come the guys responsible for Paper Mario are so fucking out of touch with what made the first two and arguably the third so great?
How the fuck can you look at both Sticker Star and Color Splash and go like:
>established character's like Bowser and Peach have no spin to them and are reduced to their stale mainline game personality of bowser roars and peach being boring
>uninteresting world building
>full of toads that aren't even visually distinguishable from each other
>use NONE of the other mario critters when the most fun of Paper Mario comes from seeing normal enemies like Goomba's Koopa's and Boos etc. having an actual friendly society not allied with Bowser
>gutted battle system
And go "Yeah, that's what people are looking for, I'm sure it'll be well received."
I'd rather Paper Mario just get retired entirely at this point. Just make more Mario and Luigi games instead.
>7 damage when he can only do 1 damage per hit
>50 health when he only has 1 health
>gombamario just bonks
>koops just hits with shell
>bombette just explodes
>paracarry is areial attacks
>bow fan hit and temp invisibility
>spark just zaps
>fish shoots water
>luckitu throws spiny
>repeat most for ttyd
ok..but..they were always one use. That was the point. Each filled a niche. With minor stat buffs, if they even had that.
it's not for kids. nintendo only wants kids to play their games
That's actually not true for the majority of bee species.
Furthermore it's pretty irrelevant to game design, real life turtles can't spin around in their shells and launch themselves at high speeds
Tanabe is a hack and fancies himself a genius game designer
He'll shit out countless bad ideas based on a bastardazied version of Miyamoto's design philosophy, commit fully to them, get praised by the drones that work for him, and say the consumers are wrong when they don't like his dogshit games.
you don't know that, but we have observed bees butt killing themselves
