Most are ripped directly out of Eva, the others you can see coming miles away but they leave you with a sense of dread because you know your fighting for the wrong side at times.

You get a bunch of equipment colour sets from S+ ranking all the files and I think some other orders. The actual gear is all over the place between order rewards and hidden chests. If you are looking for something in particular I might be able to help you out.

It's straight up stated they iare a clone that Brenda inserted memories that she extracted from the Arrow Legion into.
It's in his Computer file.
Whether the Akira we spent most of the game with is the real one or also a clone is the real unanswered question.

I think it's more that when you have a very high sync rate with your legion you both basically become the same person.

only the very first of those slots is even under orders, and i've 100%'d the fucking toilet paper, none of them give you the slots.

Well it lets you pick the colors based on the presets or as you already said use the RGB silders. I guess there is nothing stoppimg you to use the sliders to pick completly new paint job. Because I only have 7 slots left and they are all for S ranking the last seven files. Gotta use the sliders user.

Use your legion skills to slow them down while picking them off one by one. Every legion has one except sword's unique skills work for this.

It's easily my second favorite single player experience, since I have a soft spot for XB2. But it's definitely pretty superb. As a package, it's practically overflowing with good content. The side activities are fun and varied and have cute context with some creative use of your abilities, the story as a whole is well executed and delivered and there's tons of stuff for completionists to go after that are genuinely rewarding

It’s literally action game combat boiled down to its essentials so you can control two characters simultaneously.

You're not really supposed to. You are LITERALLY invincible when you ride the beast, so if you could attack effectively it would break the combat system.

How hard is the game on expert ?
Is it better to replay the game in normal/Expert and grind elements to max your equipement and Legions for the late game folder 12's quest or can you do them without needing to upgrade anything ?

Couple of reasons.
Yoseph made himself part of the astral plane so when you dunk on Noah you actually hurt the plane itself
Jena and Yoseph were fucking with the plane hard, and so with both of them gone the plane is most likely a lot less angry.

Ive replayed some of the earlier levels on ultimate after I finished the game, its pretty easy to kill stuff but if you get hit it hurts like a truck, most annoying part is the spikes on the ground almost one shot you. Best part is that when your legion takes damage you take damage as well so you have to be careful with positioning

It's pretty tough. You don't need to max everything out though. There's a couple things that make some encounters brutal. You don't have a magic pixel in this game, so you can be straight up one shot by attacks. You also have seemingly no invincibility on hit unless you Legion ukemi, so continuous attacks sometimes combo you to death in a very short amount of time. I also feel like the AI gets more aggressive. Beast Chimera don't stop fucking howling, anti-decibel becomes very useful. Good defense becomes absolutely necessary because you die so fast.

On the flip-side, the scoring system's incredible leniency really comes into effect. Surviving any encounter usually results in an S+ no matter what.

I just beat chapter 11, final boss was bullshit. I had only had to be revived maybe three times in the whole game up to then, but had to be revived 8 times plus using 6 full heals, all medicines, two Lappy Specials, and god knows what else just to stay alive. The fucker couldn't be bound, had undodgeable attacks, and his shit couldn't even be blocked by the axe shield. Was there some gimmick I missed?

Maybe you should learn how to play.

Dog can dodge all his projectiles and outrun the 1hitKO. Axe is blocks the lazers. You can just roll away when they shoot bubbles. If you kill at least one clone while they are in a circle you can just back stab them while they finish the move. Sword legion is pretty good to fight him close range with. Axe and Arm can do heavy damage. Arrow is good whenever. He has patterns. Don't use the fusion until the last bit of health otherwise you will end up wasting it when he teleports into the sky.
And I'm not that good

Because there are a ton of mechanics - perfect dodge, blade mode, dog riding, arm super armor, chain jump, chain bind, perfect call, all the sync attacks, etc., etc., but none of them feel particularly good or even necessary. Beyond the basic concept of fighting with a legion the combat seems to be just a jumble of different ideas that are never really pulled to the front and made integral to combat.

Even sync attacks, what I would call the most focused mechanic, are highly situational and can get in the way of doing command L2 moves or perfect calls.

the shivering woman in zone09 who asks you to deliver the box lunch that unlocks the hermit card, which reduces the cost of the hermitonic, glitched out on me. she gave me the lunch and then i took on another quest and it removed hers from my log even though i had the food. then i reloaded to a prior save and the item was gone and the quest was gone.

Probably the best switch game I've played all year. Not universal GOTY material, but worth the buy and definitely a nice addition to the switch library.

Noah was the physical embodiment of the Astral Plane, and by killing it you damaged he Astral Plane.

yeah honestly it feels like i end up mashing r2 and just tapping l2 either to get help or to do a sync attack, swapping weapons or legions midcombo is very distracting and some enemies are just relentless. so you have to strategically tap dodge and strategically tap L2 and get hits in with your melee in good timing with the legion's hits and like jeez man i'm working up a sweat

even with the helmet, that chain, your weapon, and the other minor details should be red while wearing it, it's just wierd half assing of the outfit.

I think the only commander I have seen in Japanese Sci Fi that wasn't evil was Aramaki.

Definitely keep in mind that it isn't DMC or Bayonetta. It's a new game that does things differently. The mix of investigation/exploration/combat and the way you control two characters at once comes to mind. If that's not for you I can't recommend it. If it is for you, you're going to have a blast.

You can replay files as soon as file 2 as you're unlikely to change file 1 to standard on your first time playing the game. But you shouldn't back track until you have all legions

It’s a blast man, and even after beating it there’s still a pretty hefty post game, equipment to unlock, you can go back and s rank the missions, lots of stuff to do. I was on the fence but I’m really enjoying it, love the combat

They'll probably have it in the sequel as a clone post-ARI, then a second clone you've been with after the game ends, and OG Akira died when he got fucked prior to the ARI chapter but was kept in stasis or some shit for the new big bad to revive him.

It's a different beast than Bayonetta so it might not click right away or ever. Combat's a bit more grounded and since enemies are pretty aggressive and not as easily staggered, controlling enemies with you and your Legion while systematically taking them out ends up being a lot of the combat.

The original Akira did NOT die after the fight with Jena in chapter 4. Joseph himself says that Akira returned the ARI suddenly having extreme sync with his legion, and that's when he decided to start cloning Akira and start the RAVEN project.

You probably missed it because he said all this during the lore dump while you're in the middle of fighting his legions.

You're knocked out a couple of days in File 03, then you're pressumed dead for a week or two when you first fuse since you've got some time for the Ravens to become the new force plus Olive and Brenda escaping Neuron.

I think the area transitions might show dates, so we ought to be able to see exactly when.

this, but unironically. She had massive revenge autism for Yoseph, but her goal was making weapons to kill Chimeras and the eventual destruction of the Astral plane. She had no plans to make herself a god, she had no plans to subjugate humanity, just to death of humanities enemies.
Hell she even spared the twins when she beat them in that fight and felt bad about how you were being used and the conditions of your birth. The only actual dick thin she did was stab your sibling, and even then she seemed fairly certain they were alive when she saw you next. If you choose to dedicate yourself to a sync attack in a potentially dangerous situation that's on you, but you shouldn't be able to be knocked out of it once the animation starts. You have absolutely no control anyway, at least let it finish so I can get the damage I signed up for.

That's a pretty lousy excuse. When you take a case it just sends you on the mission without making you manually walk up to the roof and get in the helicopter. Inconsistent tedium is arguably worse that consistent tedium.

You'll get Ds and Cs until you start unlocking shit. Then when you've upgraded and have sync attacks available it turns into S+s for everything.

The game isn't like other Platinum games, there is no style ranking. You aren't penalized for getting hurt, using items, or even dying and reviving. Finishing fights quickly and using as many tools at your disposal as possible is what gets you high rankings.

It's graded on how many of the skill/moves you do, back stabs, and time. Getting your shit pushed in doesn't really matter. Items don't hurt it ether like they did in Bayonetta and 101.

It'll get better and worse in the endgame. The full moveset is really fun and helps you get better ranks (like A/S). Then you'll max out your weapons and everything dies in your path.
Then you go back for S+ ranks. You'll really need to no diff 0 damage speedblitz the enemies for 10K points in some cases. You kill things too quickly and won't be able to use your full moveset. It'll really drive you up the wall if you want those last few rewards.

Yeah don't expect to be getting A and S ranks right off the bat. You're meant to go back to those filles when you're stronger.

Don't get it twisted, you do get more point potential as you unlock things, but there are things you can do without unlocking anything for a good ranking, i.e. backstabs, headshots, multi kill slashes, multi chain binds, regular binds, and some others. Still, perfect call is one of the best point yielders in the game and you have to unlock that.

Just use it. The range is huge and headshots cause a lot of flinching. Individual slashes can hit loads of enemies too. Which is useful when those wolves summon puppies.

It's more experimental than most Platimum games. The game is two parts combat one part exploration and one part investigation. If you're looking for nonstop action you'll be a little soured. That being said it's the best game I've played for a while.
Also, never buy a system for one game. Do it for a bunch of them.

It fucking sucks, bro. Axe legion has the passive parry, block, and Blue Shield buff. Wolf legion has the dodge sync with full invincibility, howl, and the riding mechanic that makes you invincible. Arm legion has no defensive tools in its kit beyond the black hole. Wearing the arm legion does pisspoor damage compared to just slamming crystals with the axe legion. I know wearing the arm makes you immune to being staggered, but does it also lower the damage you take? Would stacking defense really make a difference?

If you chainbind an enemy, you shouldn't even need to worry about seeing their attacks since they're usually stunned. But if that's the case, then keep it off, so long as your legions are upgraded you should be fine.

does the arrow legion have the best perfect dodge/perfect call sync attacks? last time I used the former in a file 12 case I was surprised at how massive the damage was, plus it moves you out of harm's way and either makes enemies fuck off in the distance or freezes them in place

honestly I consider this a failing of the game, they should let you customize both siblings, cos not being able to forces me to use the default look because I can't stand them looking too dissimilar.

There's always the sequel if it ever happens to fix that.

Automata is one of my favorite games ever, and I like Astral Chain a lot so far, but I like them both for very different reasons. It's not a great comparison at all.

yeah, automata was a weird game for me. i didn't like the demo at all but bought it when it launched and couldn't stop playing til i got the plat, which is pretty unheard of for me. the combat was cool but i think what really kept me going was the story and the unique world. what do you like about astral chain?

The combat is pretty good. Like someone earlier in the thread said, they give you a lot of "little" options as opposed to focusing on a few weapons with lots of combos. I don't like it as much as other action game combat systems, but it's a nice change of pace and it's fun enough for one game. The thing I really like is the aesthetic. It's the first game I've played that's come close to nailing the feel of 80s and 90s cop anime and manga. Then there are a lot of little touches like the funny vending machines each with an archetype personality, collecting cats and throwing cans around town, and a mascot character that's actually likable.

I still can't get over the fact that this game out of the nowhere.

ironically because the enemies are harder, S+ rank just requires you to get enough points, it's actually harder to S+ weaker enemies because they die too fast to rack up a good score.

The other major female characters get some characterization, even if it isn't a ton.

Marie's characterization is "Kawaii big tittie dork girl that is cheery and wants everyone to be happy isn't she adorable!"

They did a lot of trial and error experimentation with the combat system, I imagine that took a lot of the time.

Platinum appears to have massively underestimated the average player's DPS (so they give you super high bonuses for killing bosses in even half decent time) and massively underestimated how annoying hordes of enemies are (so you get super low time bonuses for killing mobs).
Large enemies are virtually impossible not to S+. Small groups are virtually impossible to S+.

Outside of the Tutorial MGR has only a handful of levels.
>90% scripted tutorial
>1st level ending with Mistral fight
>Second level rescuing the kids
>third level going to the tower to fight Monsoon
>Fourth level climbing the tower then fighting Sam
> 3 mobs in a recycled area then Sam
>3 mobs in the military base then Armstrong

you get tons of crowd control abilities after awhile and you can do some pretty nifty stuff with it, like arm legion's black hole into sword legion 360° full baton combo, it just cleans house
