It's completely different. I would look up gameplay vids showing the harder game difficulty to see if you will like it or not. The updates kind of helped, but the DLC isn't worth it. It's a cute game if you just want to chill out and don't take it seriously.

I liked it. Plot is just your standard school going teenagers fight unknown evil with superpowers plot. It plays out exactly like an anime, down to the OP playing each chapter and even the no OP for the last "episode" cliche. There's character side stories but no dating which makes sense at the end. Characters are likeable, even the MC, but not particularly deep.
Gameplay is pretty simple light/heavy/special and ranged attacks. You can't get away with button mashing and spamming healing items, and bosses are tough, but there's not a lot of crazy comboing or anything. Each character uses a different weapon and plays a bit differently from one another. There were complaints that the vita version was too easy which was apparently fixed in the PS4 version, but I can't verify. Dungeon crawling is enjoyable.
The localization ranges from okay to infuriating. Lots of instances of the localizer trying to make epic funny dialogue instead of just translating the fucking text. The word chortle will make you want to kill yourself.

I beat it the other day, I liked it. Yanagishita is my favorite character although Detective Kano was my favorite type of badass.

I like how each of the character's perspectives is a different literary genre.

Maybe because I am a sucker for JAPANESE HUMOUR but I thought the entire game was hilarious. In particular, the chapter where all the characters are at a shopping mall and keep running into each other. 10/10 writing.

As for the sale, I am eyeing the Valkyria Chronicles 4 Complete edition. I'll probably skip it though, it's definitely going to become much cheaper because it's a flop.

My niggers. Played this in April and couldn’t put it down, I never would have expected such likeable characters but the live action setting really did a lot to make the game special. My only complaint is how the funny characters started to drop off towards the end of the game, I wish they would have gotten an epilogue or something.

Dont waste your time. I bought the bundle at christmas and never played both games more than 10 hours.
You see, it could had worked. They had a good idea and the story is ok, but they fucked up by making a very clunky and boring combat and tedious dungeons. They just had to make a quick paced gameplay, but nope, they chose to create a clunky shit that plays like the beginning of the PS1 era.
Second game improves the combat a bit, but it still fucking sucks.

Yes it's a bit sad that we never got to find out what happens to Yanagishita after he's caught by the Yakuza, Miku the wrestling gal, the shy reporter and many others. Also I was upset that Minorikawa's stop was wrapped up off-screen.

After that it was weird to watch the little Canaan animation and how it ties into the events of Shibuya, specially the jump you make at the end. Type-Moon's style mixed up with real actor is such a weird design decision.

Osawa did nothing wrong, other than being a terrible husband and father.

Honestly, might be the weakest mainline Senran game. If you've played SV, you may still wanna throw in to get the rest of Neo-Hebijo and Gessen's storylines but PBS was a WAY more fun game and legitimately moved the series' plot more.
EV is just a game-long beach episode.

I've only really started with 2025, and it's so damn fun. I'm not a fan of the unlock system, but the Fencer's fun for getting in the monsters' faces and the Air Raider's interesting because you have to balance flight with your reloading, as they're both tied to the same gauge
