KAWAZU CHADS RISE UP

>RS3 November 11
>SG December 3

A bunch of never-evers are finally getting translated, comfy threads are back on the menu lads!

I still have to beat RS2
I also still have to beat like 3-4 characters on SaGa Frontier on the PS1

I just got RS1 on PS2.

Fuck yes!
I'll probably need a month to finish DQ11S, so RS3 will come just in time.
I saw few videos of Scarlet's combat, I liked what I saw.

SG's combat is really great. It's simple enough that you can understand it in a few mins, yet deep enough to always have you pause to think about your strategy. The balance is also refined enough that they often tend to be cut throat and very exciting.

Too bad everything else feels really barebones. It's almost like a combat simulator.

This is cool.

I just hope square doesn't get wise and overprices the shit out of this in my region

2000 pesos for Octopath jesus fuck

Where the fuck do I start with the SaGa series?

GOD DAMN I CAN'T BUY ALL OF THIS SHIT
HOLY SHIT 2019 THIS IS SO COOL

Romancing SaGa 2 is in most modern consoles and it's a masterpiece.

RS2 and Last Remnant (Not precisely SaGa but still) are both on sale on PSN. Which is better for a beginner to the series?

RS2

Last Remnant is more linear. Both require you to understand mechanics or have an open mind to understand them.

RS2 would be a better choice to be honest.

Thanks anons.

READ THE FUCKING MANUALS BEFORE PLAYING

>Too bad everything else feels really barebones.
Characters, world, music and lore are all great, and there's a shitload of content, it's actually incredibly how much they did with no budget at all, it's even more nonlinear and with more event variety and player input than RS2.
My gripe with Scarlet is that outside of the horrible battle arenas and very unstable animation quality is how they streamlined too much stuff like crafting and magic, the new combat system is great but magic sucks in Scarlet, and crafting, while offering a new nice formula for tech learning is just a straight up upgrade line instead of offering more interesting options like Unlimited or MS, it was one of the bad things they kept from TLR.
TLR is more linear and less brutal, RS2 is a bit less complex on some mechanics but has a lot more variety and is in general better executed.
Neither are good entry points though, TLR relies far too heavily on accumulated knowledge from the rest of the series and has a shitload of references you'll miss, while RS2 is notoriously brutal for beginners.
I'd say wait for RS3 as it's a lot easier than both, or play SaGa Frontier.

the thing with frontier is that a lot of stuff got lost in the cutting floor and it shows, its a lot of fun once you get the mechanics but it will feel kinda empty at first when you are used to other games in the genre

Unlimited Saga's crafting was actually trash.
When you need either an outside guide or endless trial and error that incentives save scumming, it means that the system itself is flawed.

RS was a step above because it would at least give you hints that you were doing the right thing.

>TWO SaGa games with such a tight release window between each other
>SaGa games so close to holidays and other releases

I really hope S-E is playing smart and letting them flop on release. Because that's what they're gonna do. I'm buying both anyway, fuck it.

Scarlet Grace was not "made" by Kawazu if you're making the disclaimer for TLR.

All SaGa games feel empty at first when you're used to other RPGs, the narrative is set up in a way that nobody tells you anything and you have to pay attention to all the particulars through multiple playthroughs to get the bigger picture, Frontier isn't any different even with all its cut content problems.
Even Scarlet Grace being a lot more direct than the rest of the series when it comes to narrative doesn't change the fact that you'll need to play the game multiple times, through multiple routes and multiple main character stories to get the bigger picture instead of relying on NPC infodumps or cutscenes.
Unlimited's crafting was the best in the series by a long shot and you don't need any outside guide, let alone save scumming, which is impossible.
>at least give you hints that you were doing the right thing.
Those hints were the same exact hints Unlimited used though, if anything MS was worse off since a lot of material used for harmonious crafting were far more difficult to obtain compared to Unlimited, not to mention how RS has SEVEN different Mullock types compared to Unlimited's two types, and only one of those is the one you'll need for Gray's quest.

fair enough, I always forget Kawazu was actually involved in TLR

>No physical release
Oh well. Still...

SAGA NEVER DIES
SAGA NEVER ENDS
SAGA LIVES ON

SaGa games outside the GB games never performed well in the west, so it's not a problem.
It's kind of a dumb post but Kawazu actually directed Scarlet Grace, as for TLR he was the just executive producer and scenario writer while Takai was the director, which is a big difference, and it shows.

With those things out of the way, what's next for the SaGa team? It's going to 100% be UE4 related imo

Oh, I thought he was only a designer in that one. I can't find credit lists beyond english wikipedia, do you have any? As for SaGa games underperforming... yeah, but that the reason they tend to not come anyhow. I'd like the games to be translated hahaha

Well, RS2 has a NG+ option which you can pick at any moment, so if you fuck up you can restart the game with stuff from previous run transfered to a new one.
TLR is a better game (in my opinion), but for this alone I'd say pick RS2.

No, fuck that. Buy both games, but don't play TLR now.

Next project will almost certainly be UE4 given how the team is already well versed with UE since TLR, it makes no sense to use anything else, they only switched to Unity with Scarlet because Vita couldn't run UE, in hindsight that was a good move because it allowed them to also port Scarlet to phones with no problems.
>I thought he was only a designer in that one
Kawazu almost always works on mechanic design and scenario writing in all of his games, but when he works as a director he often tends to go all out with his own oddities rather than just making a rough general design for gameplay and leave the elaboration to the team, games like Unlimited or Scarlet are the more recent examples of that.
But again, it's kind of a dumb post to begin with because outside of SaGa 3 Kawazu has been the driving force of the series and no entry, TLR included, was made without his input at some level, so saying some games are less "Kawazu" than others is disingenuous for people who don't know the series.

my fligga

>so saying some games are less "Kawazu" than others is disingenuous for people who don't know the series.
You have to consider that the games he put, outside of TLR, on that qualification, are really not games with any involvement of Kawazu or S-E even (Alliance Alive and Legend of Legacy). It's not that dumb.

Well, those games are made by former team members but aren't proper entries in the series so yeah.
Might as well include Tendou Blade or GoS at that point, but as much as they are SaGa-likes or clones they're still not part of the series proper.

Time to replay Minstrel Song

I think that's what the other user meant by that. Also, what's GoS?

I really hope S-E doesn't go nuts with the pricing as they have with FFCrystal Chronicles or Chocobo Dungeon. 20-40 bucks is fine. More is overkill.

RS3 is 3500Y in japan so it will probably be 29$/Yurobucks or so.
Scarlet Grace will be higher, probably 39$, who knows.

It's pretty interesting that TLR managed to be in the top 20 or so Switch sales the month it came out on the virtue of being fairly priced.

It was just 20$, right?
SaGa games are truly an anomaly in Square's portfolio.

Yup, less than the port of FFIX or FFVIII remastered for that instance. To put it into perspective, the fanservice FF game with Nomura designs and chibis for the Vita was sold for 40 whole bucks on Switch.

>Doesn't give a fuck a about the western journos and casuals hating on the games
>Is happy the games are finally coming out for all the western fans out there
Kawazu is a national treasure, we do not deserve him.

W-was the Switch version of Scarlet Grace any good?

Attached: 1563212198987.jpg (1536x2048, 374K)

It's a Vita game, I don't know where it could've gone wrong.

Kawazu looked kinda old in the last stream I watched. May he have good health, he deserves it.

All the versions of the rerelease are functionally the same.

But is it 60fps

Attached: 1557369521839.png (916x914, 835K)

He's 56, not the oldest out there but still a veteran and part of the old guard.
We'll get at least one more decade of games from him, Miyamoto is 66 and he's still working, Kawazu will be the same.
Even the OG Vita release was 60 FPS, don't worry about that.

hot damn time to dust off that piece of shit system and get comfy

Scarlet is really comfy, perfect for playing on the go due to how it's structured.

>spoiler 2
Just skip Lute, he's shit and his whole story is just "Let's grind, beat the final boss and win.". The main must plays are T260G, Red and Asellus. Blue, Riki and Amelia are alright but not as good.

So the 3 DS remakes are all worth playing? I've only beaten Frontier 1 and SaGa 1-3 on GB. Frontier 2 and RS2 both kicked my ass because of how much hidden shit you have to learn.

Very much so, SaGa 3 DS in particular is what redeemed the original game and turned it into an actual and pretty good SaGa game.
They're very competent remakes that also have some nice extras, very good games for beginners too.

Will scarlet grace be getting a physical release?

I doubt that, but it's possible since Japan did get a physical release for the Switch/PS4 versions.
Wouldn't really hold my breath though.

No. At least it's not likely.

The TGS direct for SaGa seems to still lack an official time slot, but it's on the second day.
Unfortunately it's all about RS3 and the mobage, no news on what they're working on outside of these, guess we'll have to some more months until the anniversary hits.

I don't really expect them to show anything before FFVIIR1 (what a mouthful) and SD3R's release.

Yeah, they probably don't want to compete with either releases overshadowing them, makes sense.
