Has Epic even revealed if their strategy to drive business to the EGS is even working? Devs are happy because they get the money 100K of sales would have brought right out of the gate but if Epic isn't driving business in spite of their tactic then it's just burning money.
Has Epic even revealed if their strategy to drive business to the EGS is even working...
Don't get triggered now OP
Is that a game they contractually gained exclusivity to?
If it worked they'd stopped buying exclusives.
So Risk of Rain 2 sells 1 million copies x $20=$20,000,000
But factor in Steam's 30% cut, and it's down to 14,000,000
But Satisfactory sells 500,000 copies x $30=15,000,000
And you factor in Epic's 12%, that's down 13,750,000
So in the long run, Satisfactory will make way more money than Risk of Rain 2, especially with the cash injection from Epic for the exclusivity.
And I'm not even factoring the 10-15% Gearbox gets for ROR2. (Oops, that's gotta hurt)
That's their entire plan. Epic has the money to burn, and the bribe is the literal only incentive any dev has to go exclusive. Don't expect them to stop poaching devs, they need to in order to survive.
If they spent a fraction of that money on actually making the store viable there would be no PR issues what so ever. Until they do so, I'll pirate every epic exclusive.
Satisfactory sold 500K from the buyout. They haven't sold a single copy otherwise.
Cope
>sells 500k units within a months time
>not another word of sales numbers or sales landmarks since
Really makes you think, huh?
Doesn't Epic have billions in reserve from Fortnite alone? And this isn't even counting the backing they get from the chinese government. So why aren't they improving the storefront? Why don't they hire more devs to help with Fortnite, instead of keeping them in perpetual crunch? Why aren't they MAKING their own games, instead of poaching games that are already done, or buying games and removing them from other stores? It just feels like I'm not getting anything out of this as a customer, and Epic is acting like they already have a monopoly.
>Game sells less after release
Are you fucking retarded ?
Another one:
>Devolver Digital celebrates My Friend Pedro's 250.000 copies sold in the first two weeks on Twitter
>their EGS-exclusive title Observation that was put on there because the devs thought they'd reach a wider audience that they wouldn't get on other platforms (yeah, right) never got any mention so far
The fucking cope of Steam drones
Why are you people so obsessed with digital toy stores? Who gives a shit
>starts moving the goalpost
Sales dont just flatline you fucking idiot
If the sales rate of a game drops to 0 after just a couple of months, then your game is just shit. And the large number of sales in the first place is likely due to Tim's interference
Think about it-the sales curve must be very steep to hit 500k within a month, and then it just flatlines?
And not just Satisfactory. We still dont have updated sales numbers on WWZ (which sold 250k units within the first week, 700k units within a month, I think), no word on Exodus (2.5x the previous game's sales, guys!) and no word at all on sales of anything else
>chinkshill right now
If I had the version with the golden laughing meme instead, it'd be more accurate, but this will do for now
If it was working they'd be shouting about it from every rooftop. That they haven't said anything is a massive statement in and of itself.
Aside from your own wishful thinking and cope, what reasons would a publisher/dev have to update us on their sales month by month? How often does that happen normally? Almost never, is the answer, sorry.
Why would you have regular updates on their sales? Most games on steam don't get them.
Steam has concurrent playercounts that are updated every hour, so it's less necessary.
>what reasons would a publisher/dev have to update us on their sales month by month?
>EGS brags about 250k sales for wwz in one week
>Satisfactory devs brag about 500k sales within a month
>all this bragging just to show off how popular they are, literally no other reason
>Suddenly radio silence on everything
>t-they never do that!!
Holy shit the epic butthurt
Their strategy is burning the money to make people install the EGS and gain marketshare. Once they've gained enough marketshare they will cut off the free money and increase their cut because they know that their current model is not sustainable in the long run, even all the Fortnite money will eventually dry up so this is just a temporary push to force their product into an unwilling market.
Yes, that's what usually happens, the dev/publisher says the game sold very well once, and that's it, they don't update it monthly.
Keep coping.
Tim said this model in unsustainable. Its clearly an attempt to establish a usebase.
So no, just because hes doing it doesnt mean its apparently working. That will be determined in the long run.
Because they print money bro, the only reason anyone "cares" about anything
>the dev/publisher says the game sold very well once, and that's it
Except for WWZ which got this treatment twice, with two sales numbers being declared-250k sold on opening week, then 700k units some time later
What now, chinkie?
Seething chinamen dodging points
I-I-I CALL YOU A DRONE AND POST A WOJACK EDIT!
THAT'LL SHOW YOU MY SUPERIOR POSITION!
This is implying that Risk of Rain 2 just suddenly going to stop selling.
Although Hoppo is an idiot for making a publishing deal with Gearbox. He has enough of a good reputation and popularity off of RoR1 that he could have self published and market it.
>Yes, that's what usually happens, the dev/publisher says the game sold very well once, and that's it, they don't update it monthly.
Devs/Pubs usually announce whenever they hit milestones, and those milestones usually come around the launch period before slowing down to a crawl until the next one.
The best part is if you assume they made all their sales legitimately, they would've hit the 1 million sales landmark ages ago. The silence is very telling
Now you're getting it, you little shit.
Why do you come onto a board that you clearly don't care about? Is your life really that pathetic?
I've doubled down on my principle to never take anyone's word for it (especially when it's online AND from a corporation) ever since EGS exclusives started boasting great sales, they tell more through their silence than when they actually make an announcement
I still don't even have Epic account, I wasn't interested in Fortnite when it blew up and all their giveaways seem to pointless when all my friends are on Steam and I can get in game with them in one click.
Giving away free shit in hopes people fucking buy shit from their store is such a nice move by them
Devs get paid, I get games for free, it's literally free money for everyone but Epic lol
Except nobody wants their shit games that were around for enough time for everyone interested in them to already own them on Steam. You might as well just pirated them.
>It's fun to pretend that I care about the Epic Store because then I can incite fights and laugh at people getting buttmad about it!
You really need to stop.
This whole board needs to stop.
the correct response is
Walmart had to do the same strategy for years before it paid off. Epic launcher hasn't even been around for a single year
What am I supposed to do as a consumer?
Oh I am talking about pirating, don't think I have installed that chinese spyware
Keep supporting steam until epic takes over in a few years, then change from STEAM CARES ABOUT THE USERS to WE NEED TO PROTECT SMALL MOM AND POP SHOPS LIKE STEAM
I prefer Epic Store over genocidal amerikkkan maniacs having more global influence to be honest.
At least try to sound like its not bait
/int/ has truly rotted your brain.
500K of them being from Epic's buyout.
Walmart operates in the realm of physical goods, not easily pirateable files. Epic's exclusives mean jack shit if they can't take piracy with it.
Epic store doesn't currently offer a single feature as a end user that I'm interested in. In fact it's missing most of the features that I want.
Huh? Wasn't world War z some shitty game that was on steam ages ago trying to bank off the zombie popularity?
dont care. I am not going to download another company store.
wwz died in less than a week
fucking trash game lmao
