Imagine reading/watching this shit unironically.

Mashima started phoning in it hardcore after a while with Fairy Tail. His first series, RAVE, was a pretty decent adventure series. Still had a lot of tropes and cliches but they were played well and it felt like he had a lot of genuine passion for it. The first half of FT feels like he tried to recreate that but then stopped giving a shit after a while. His newest series, Eden Zero, has been decent so far and feels like something he enjoys drawing again.
I'd say Fairy Tail is decent enough up until the timeskip where it tanks hard. The earlier half especially has a really neat setting laid out, the characters and designs are nice, and there's a lot of cool powers. I actually think it will lend itself well to an RPG even if the story itself isn't that compelling.

Earlier on the battles are actually good. It's neat seeing the different types of magic each character uses and there are some fairly cool ideas that make for interesting battles. Later on they kick up the power of friendship trope to max though and each fight is pretty much

FT basically takes all the generic tropes from shounen and cranks them up to 100, to the point where every arc is pretty much ends the same. Pic related sums up every arc in FT. You can easily tell the series was being made up as it went on, which is probably 1 reason why the mangaka could produce so many chapters at once. Sometimes he would push out 2 or 3 chapters a week. The series went on for hundreds of chapters with no real main villain, almost 0 foreshadowing, barely any world building, no real plot really until just slightly before the time skip.

Definitely near the end, yeah. The characters are likeable and the world is interesting, but the writing really took a nosedive as it went on.
All the arcs kinda merge together in your head. Like, I've read the entirety of the series, but I can only recall bits and pieces from it since a lot of the arcs aren't too memorable outside of certain parts.

The Edolas Arc can be blamed mostly on the animation studio, the anime was ahead of the manga and for the sake of not making them too wildly different Mishima was kinda forced to play the had he was dealt.

The angrier he gets the stronger the flames get, allowing him to burn even magic away.
Its a combo of this and Lucy rewiring all the harm Natsu takes from Zeref using the book of E.N.D. that allows Natsu to beat Zeref.
But its ultimately Mavis that kills Zeref, because the curse of contradiction needed them both to truly love and hate each other before they were allowed to die properly.
If he still had access to his full Fire Dragon King mode Natsu could've killed Zeref but the one time he did Happy had to stop him from getting the final blow, as Natsu would've died when Zeref did.

Zeref's death magic was divine in nature as part of his curse, it had no effect on Acnologia because Acnologia could eat any magic, which it did.
The business Acnologia had with Zeref was wanting to fight him. Because outside of himself Zeref was the strongest being in the world, Acnologia thought that Zeref could give him the bloodshed he craved.
